Funny image created when two posters were taped back-to-back on supermarket window

It's like a broken holograph.
Fujistu U2010 UMPC claims 11.1 hours of runtime on extended battery.
August 20, 2008 7:26am
It's always disparaging to see interesting hardware bundled with Windows.
No matter how great the hardware design of a new laptop is, it's still chained to the restraints of the operating system it comes bundled with. I'd love to see laptops like this one have custom Linux builds, like some other UMPCs, or some other variation.
Little Sammy Sneeze: Winsor McCay's anarchic precurson to Little Nemo in Slumberland, now a beautiful, giant book
August 20, 2008 7:21am
Holy crap. Did anyone else play the Little Nemo game for NES and never realize what it was based off of.
I know I sure did.
Mobiado's Lucido puts the candybar back in candybar phones
August 20, 2008 7:17am
Forced scarcity shouldn't make this a desirable product. Ack, collectible electronics defeats the number one purpose:
Cell phones are tools first and foremost, and should rely on usability.
States want to tax iTunes, other digital downloads
August 12, 2008 1:03pm
I'm all for necessary taxes, but I'll be fine with excise and luxury taxes generating extra revenue thank-you-very-much.
Toastabags grill cheese sandwiches in your toaster with reusable bags

George Foreman type grill works better, quicker, and less messy.
Walking Dead 8: Made to Suffer -- zombie comic keeps hitting it out of the park

This is definitely a wonderful series. I could re-read it five times. In fact, I've already re-read it twice.
Help dress the set for the next season of The IT Crowd
August 12, 2008 12:59pm
I love the show, but there's really not much geek humor to it.
The show is mainly based on physical comedy - man fall down go boom. The references are icing on the cake. Well written, solid story arcs for each episode: easy to enjoy.
Errol Morris on "Photography as a Weapon"
August 12, 2008 12:57pm
That is definitely scary to think about.
Crap.
Russell Porter with human beatbox Beardyman (music)

An impressive berth of stamina, and coming from another beatboxer, I give him some props.
Who watches the watchmen? Jobs confirms remote disabling of iPhone apps possible
August 11, 2008 6:16am
There's always a lot of speculation on Apple's part that they retain the power to become evil, giant, fascist controller of their products.
Until I hear reports of them executing this plan, I'm not going to be too worried. Israel has the ability to nuke the hell out of the Middle East, but they've restrained themselves.
Plus, you don't have to buy the iPhone. It's not a government mandate that everyone buy one. If this is the sort of thing that troubles you, you can purchase a different device.
$999.99 "I Am Rich" pulled from iPhone App Store
August 11, 2008 6:11am
Here's the thing:
Barring copyright infringement, someone could just create a free-app with that image. It's a very dumb distinction - images on the Internet are easily pirated.
Whereas it's pretty easy to spot a fake designer handbag from a mile away.
Pretty sure there will be many people with this icon on their iPhone by the end of the year, laughing to themselves because they didn't pay for it. It will be the latest Interwubb meme.
Zen-like dimpled wash basin
August 11, 2008 6:08am
Beautiful sink fixtures are doomed to a lifetime of scrubbing and swearing about how much money you spent to wash urine off your hands.
Play based on the Legend of Zelda in London closes tonight: "Liink and Zellda"
August 11, 2008 6:04am
Interesting concept, but I would have liked to see costumes that weren't so literal - it would have made the effect better in my opinion.
Starbucks' formula has changed, let us count the (three) ways.
February 28, 2008 5:45am
"At Starbucks, they learned how to press the button at a different angle to influence the espresso shot. Then they learned to scrutinize the automated shot to make sure every automated shot looks the same. If it doesn't, they put a call into corporate, and then continue making the shots, by pressing the button at the new and unique angle."
Actually the machines were re-calibrated and completely overhauled. All the timing systems were redone, and they installed a wide mesh screen filter instead of the fine mesh screen filter that used to be in the machines. Shots have a fuller body now, nicer crema on top. This is what is meant by "new mix."
Also, the Verismo machines we use don't pull single shots well. It has to do with the way the coffee grounds fill up the filter basket and it not providing enough pressure when only pulling singles. Starbucks has always used double shots for drinks that require two shots, but in efforts to save money (see: corportate board members who don't drink coffee) we've been using the single shots for drinks that only take one shot (shorts, talls) or when drinks require 3 shots. No longer. Everything is a double shot.
That being said, I'm still excited to jump ship to the local shop here if they decide to hire me. Starbucks is all right - they do a better job than almost all the shitty local places here.

Snickers Charged Infused with Caffeine and Taurine
January 29, 2008 5:26am
Joel - way off on your caffeine estimation.
A cup of green tea at 12oz has about 80-90 mg of caffeine. A cup of coffee at 12oz should have between 180-230 mg of caffeine. 60 mg of caffeine? That's not even a single shot of espresso.
Japanese coffee brewing maching

The Clover machine is slightly more cost effective.
Handpresso: bike pump espresso machine works without electricity
January 16, 2008 9:48am
Well, it's not steam pressure. I suppose useful for camping, assuming you have a fire to boil water. But I still say a french press is better for camping or home coffee making in general.
ECO Pneumo: Bamboo Dry Sacks

Camping = trash bags. Double layer them and seal them good. However, bamboo is pretty awesome.
Dough-Nu-Matic Automatic Doughnut Machine

Fantastic.
Shh, Nancy, shh. He's gone now. Oh Nancy.
I also appreciate the UHF reference in the comments section.
Ronald Jenkees; Hello YouTubes, have you heard my SICK beats?
September 5, 2007 5:52am
It might be an act. He seems well aware of his saying things like "Timbaland is my boy" sounds ridiculous coming from him. I mean, he sure is a nerd, but I think he's playing it up as an act. It works.
Amount of caffeine in soft drink brands
August 31, 2007 5:32am
Or you can drink a standard 12 oz. cup of coffee that has anywhere from 120-200 mg of caffeine. Just saying.
Also, a single shot of espresso runs from 35-55 mg of caffeine.
Joyce Johnson: Jack Kerouac and the 50th anniversary of On The Road
August 31, 2007 5:30am
While there is a version of "On The Road" typed up on a non-ending scroll of a manuscript, it should be noted that the spontaneous prose form that Kerouac used took years to develop using regular reams of paper. He had written "On The Road" in it's entirety about three times before, and then wrote the final draft spontaneously after it was all mapped out.
I think it's a wonderful American myth and legend, but I felt cheated when I found out that it was just as well tended as any other novel by any other perfectionist novelist.
But then again, I guess that's a bit reassuring if you want to be a writer yourself.
