Devo sues McDonalds
June 29, 2008 5:21pm
We NEVER eat a McDonalds, but just happened to be on a long car trip with my toddler and stopped at one a couple of weeks ago-- sure enough, I got this toy. Maybe if he wins his lawsuit I can sell it on ebay someday. HA!
Seriously, though... my toddler HATES it. With a passion. If I hand it to him, make it play the little music, he throws it angrily across the room.
And the first thing my husband said when he saw it was "Why would Devo ever go on American Idol?"
So the little hat does conjure that in peoples minds.

HOWTO Make a magic fireball (flaming oily rag) -- UPDATED
January 15, 2008 8:02am
It reminds me of the story Richard Feynman tells in a recording to Ralph Leighton about how he used to dip his hands in alcohol at the end of a magic show to scare all the kiddies in the neighborhood-- that it didn't hurt him at all.
When he is called on it later in life, and does it again, to prove that it doesn't hurt him, it hurts like hell-- because since then, he has grown hair on his hands that wicks up the alcohol and sets them on fire...
I think everyone should realize that when playing with fire, your mileage may vary and you might get get burned.
P.S. The Feynman tapes are here, if anyone else wants to grab the cool stories. Well worth

I loved the talk, and a lot of these activities remind me of the things I did in girl scouts 15-20 years ago which made me into the artist/crafter/maker/thinker I am today. I really can't wait to see the book!
However, I got the feeling that he was talking to a very friendly audience. I hope that his book backs up the assertions that we makers understand so well with more hard evidence!
Because I know these parents of the entitled precious children that need to be wrapped in bubble wrap-- they're fierce idiots who accuse people like us of nothing less than abuse for putting a pocket knife in the hands of a 6 year old, no matter how responsible we are.

I went last year and had a good time. But I can't make that trip every year, and I hear the San Mateo one is better. What there REALLY needs to be, is a Boston Makers Faire. Of course, everyone would have to fly into Providence, because of the whole Logan airport security detail.
