Read "Double or Nothing" for free online

Note for the author: wrapped-in-plastic vacuum-sealed bundles of notes are not going to come from the Mint. The Mint is in charge of coins. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (http://www.bep.treas.gov) is in charge of bills. I'm guessing the vacuum wrapping is either the Federal Reserve or Mr. Royalty's bank. Exciting read through chapter 1, though.

I'm guessing $760 is what the bidding on the "Ring of Infinite Sorrows" got to before eBay removed it.

When surfing from a non-home, non-work network, I make sure to use an SSH tunnel. Among other things, it will work around this issue.

Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS Watch Small Enough to Be Worn All Day

January 7, 2008 8:23pm

I give huge props to my 205. I owned the 301 before then. Never used the HRM function so I went with the 205. It is the sole reason why I've kept up my running for these past three years (and lost a fw dozen pounds in the process). The 205 with the SiRF III chip and better antenna placement definitely has quicker acquisition. I'm not thrilled that Garmin went with a new lineup with the low-end 50 model that does not include GPS. So that'll force consideration of a $320 purchase. But the 405 promises better antenna and higher sensitivity so it'll definitely be worth a looksy when it drops $75 between now and next year.

For those who are sensitive to female stereotypes, they could add an option for a male avatar.

If I had a secretary, it wouldn't make me uncomfortable to have a female secretary. So, that sensitivity wouldn't really affect me.

Livescribe Smartpen (Probably) Final Hardware

I used the Logitech io Pen a few years ago. Took it to meetings. Thought it was clever. However, the software used to manage the notes was cumbersome. The OCR was not useful. And going to the trouble of purchasing the proprietary pads of paper was too much. I hear some people love their io's and use them exclusively. Not me.

Does anybody (more qualified than me) think that this would qualify under the abandonware or dongle exemptions under the DMCA?

Kevin, my (meek) understanding of Tasini is of a ruling in favor of authors by finding that a print article and a Lexis/Nexis version of the article were different things from a copyright standpoint. Do the recent re-rulings in the National Geographic cases change that? Or, do the publishers only have the right to re-publish in digital form provided that the format (layout, etc...) is preserved?
