A good, fun, quick read. Make sure you have a glass of Freddy's Dishwater Lager at hand to enjoy.

Anyone else thinking of "How to Get Ahead in Advertising"? Replace boil with scalp-scab....

Short film with smiling giant pencil and a girl

This somehow reminds me of DeChirico's "Melancholy Mystery of a Street".

"Now the Hell Will Start" by Brendan I. Koerner

For those interested in the Ledo Road and WW2 in Burma, I can recommend "The Burma Road" (Donovan Webster), a fast read that covers a good deal more than the road building, including the hellish conditions the combat troops and engineers were in in that theater, as well as the frequently conflicting nationalities and personalities of the bigwigs in charge (on the Allied side) (Stilwell, Slim, Wingate, et al).

Three Shadows: haunting and dreamlike graphic novel of love, bravery and sacrifice

April 7, 2008 2:04pm

#2: Good question which I was wondering myself. My soon-to-be 5 year old daughter likes "daddy's books", i.e. the graphic novels and comics I read to her at night, especially Tintin, and the spectacular "Wizard of Oz" adaptation by David Chauvel and Enrique Fernández. More likely than not, I'll pick up "Three Shadows" and see if it's appropriate for now, or for later...

Wax cylinder xmas music MP3s

December 18, 2007 8:38am

I just downloaded the .zip file, it seems most if not all of the MP3s from collectionscanada.ca are truncated (something like 1/5 of the songs). That site is painfully slow at the moment.

What's she gonna say about wax cylinders?

She'll brain you with a candy cane in all likelihood.

Mac users: I wish they had a Mac client for C@H, too, but I can understand them concentrating on getting the most CPUs on board first and foremost. They are in a "beta testing phase" according to the site, having just moved out of alpha on Friday.

I was a postdoc at U. Illinois astro dept. a few years ago, so I'm cheering for C@H! I'll also trust they'll make good use of our cycles...
