Tibet and human rights: New Amnesty ads (update: source unconfirmed)

@Satan

You said:
Another question that has not been answered is whether "freeing Tibet" means a return of political and land ownership rights to the autocratic monks or a movement toward democratic rule of an independent Tibetan republic. Neither of which is for anyone but the Chinese or Tibetans to dictate by accord or force in any foreseeable future.

Answered by who? It's been clearly discussed time and time again. People working for a "Free Tibet" wish to have autonomous rule over the region in a Democratic manner. No one is calling for a return to autocratic monk rule.

When you say such things, it's clear that you haven't even bothered to read anything on the issue beyond slogans. It makes you look foolish.

Read this Tibet.com whitepaper and note the following:
"The guidelines for Tibet's future polity also stated:

Future Tibet shall be a peace-loving nation, adhering to the principle of ahimsa (non-violence). It shall have a democratic system of government committed to preserving a clean, healthy and beautiful environment. Tibet shall be a completely demilitarised nation.

The Tibetan struggle is, thus, not for the resurrection of the traditional system as the Chinese claim."

It's pretty clear that you're misinformed. If you'd like to cite sources on anything you're saying, I'm curious to see you backup your statements with facts. I'm guessing that you cannot do so.

Harassed by rent-a-cops in Zurich for photographing soccer statues

June 6, 2008 2:25pm

I've been walking in and out of this station for the last week. Almost all of the time, there's someone photographing the construction. Myself included. It's totally insane that they would hassle someone for taking photos inside of the center of the main Zürich train station! You can't miss these things if you try! Argh!

zuzu, I assure you that the iPod is not loaded with msramdmp. We wrote all of our own software for these attacks. msramdmp is very limited and bloated for what it can do. It stomps on a ton of memory because it uses SYSLINUX, it doesn't play nice with 64bit, etc, etc.

Everything we've written is from scratch because we care about having the most minimal memory footprint possible.

Google Summer of Code accepts Tor for 2008 program

March 21, 2008 4:30am

(Disclaimer: I help with the Tor project)

Zuzu, Why is I2P better? I tried to read the tech docs for I2P and they were unavailable (dev.i2p.net is down?). It's hard to even begin to vet something when I can't easily read the specs for the protocol...

Also, what's up with the licensing for I2P? It's like five different licenses depending on the component and then they're all dual licensed on top of that?

In addition, Tor and I2P aren't the same type of network. I2P is primarily something all parties need to participate in. Tor allows (by default) interaction with the "outside" world. Tor also has the ability to provide fully anonymous services.

Furthermore, the Tor network has a great deal of bandwidth. I run many high bandwidth nodes. Tor is only slow at times because of the number of nodes that are spread across the planet. It takes a while to route packets from China to Germany and out of India.

With that said, I find it strange that when I attend security or privacy conferences, I never meet I2P developers. I've never read any papers about their project or the protocol. I've seen one talk about I2P at the last CCC Congress and it was given by a user of I2P.

I really wish the developers of I2P would submit their project to the privacy enhancing technology workshop this year. I'd love to read a paper about their ideas, I'd like to know how the project is going, what the network is like, what kind of principles guide the project, etc.

There's room in the world for both projects.

Cop roughs up teenage skateboarder on video

The kid didn't hear the police officer speaking because he was listening to an iPod. This interaction didn't start from a place of disrespect and the police officer took it there. It was clearly a misunderstanding but the officer didn't back down. He didn't listen to any of the answers the kid gave and he was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional.

Furthermore in trying to explain himself, the kid was assaulted by the officer. His property was taken without a reasonable cause and he was verbally battered in front of his peers.

Yes, the kid did use the terms "dude" and "man" but in the same vain as kids who use the term 'like' when they're not actually comparing things. It's normal English usage in America. It isn't a sign of disrespect, it's a sign of a living language.

Oh and the threatening of his life. That was classic. Way to ruin it for any actual reasonable police officer in this kids future!

To top all of it off, the officer then proceeded to address the issue of being filmed as if he was about to hurl more threats from his position of authority. Those kids have every right to film in a public place and certainly when a police officer has an altercation with their friend.

Fuck that cop and any cop who pulls this shit. Fire him and sue the city into the ground.

I'm a tax payer and I'm sick of my money going to dirty power hungry assholes. Hand out a ticket if it's really illegal, otherwise please go solve some real crimes!
