NASA has a Stargate
December 19, 2007 9:55am
What's missing from the above picture? The touching phrase "Let me show you it." Bucking internet memes is a dangerous precedent.
Tin pregnancies of 18th cen. London
December 17, 2007 4:48am
Maybe it presented the wearers as desirable birth mothers, along the lines of a then-modern "fertility goddess". The statement that compares pregnancy to a from of disfigurement seems to contradict my theory, though.

Unicorn eats bowl of glitter

Perhaps glitter is actually Unicorn excrement? After all, they are magical creatures and such.
Film review: 2 Girls One Cup
November 28, 2007 9:44pm
The Unicorn is unable to save your tender eyes at this time, as it is too busy filming the sweeping epic "Two Unicorns, One Horn".

This goes well with the [slightly whimsical?] Charles Bronson "Mandom" aftershave ads from Japan.

and a more interesting but [sadly] shorter Mandom ad from later on.

One thing is for sure, if he had spoken some level of English, he'd still be alive today and we wouldn't be having this discussion. The most important phrase he could've learned was "please help me".

Michael Brown, FEMA's Katrina boss, offers S.D. wildfires advice
October 25, 2007 1:52pm
@Crash
In the case of someone who hasn't been properly punished for it, yes - it's impossible for them to learn from their mistakes. This jerk likely thinks he hasn't done anything wrong. He resigned to avoid being lynched. It's not like Joe at the local grocery store getting canned for dropping a case of glass-bottled product and saying "Ooops. My baad". People suffered and died because of Brown's negligence, complacent attitude, and overall incompetence.
As a side note, in Japan, a person can be arrested for professional negligence resulting in deaths and injuries. How high up the chain of command [as in elected officials and such] this law goes is anyone's guess.
StormWorm botnet lashes out at security researchers
October 24, 2007 2:23pm
Storm Worm, we don't talk anymore. You always get touchy and defensive when we try to discuss our give-and-take relationship. It's the uncomfortable silences that hurt the most. Where did the love go? *deep sigh*
Chinese luxury market -- all smoke and mirrors?
October 23, 2007 5:04am
This would explain why a $1,000 luxury bag doesn't necessarily outlast its $20 cousin.
Dumbledore pride tees
October 23, 2007 4:09am
It sounds to me as if Rowling has been struck in the face by the sobering realization that her money ticket has come and gone. Her postmortem discussion of this character reeks of a potential spin-off.
Halloween mugshot mask: U.S. Senator Larry Craig
October 22, 2007 1:38am
I don't think it's because of homophobia; it's more likely because the mask is so damned ugly and the senator is such an enormous joke.
Dumbledore is gay -- Rowling
October 22, 2007 1:02am
Wow...he's gay...who really cares? He's a fictional character in a book written at a twelfth-grade reading level. A person's - or in this case a character's - sexuality should not define them as a person or their role in life, especially when it becomes a stereotype for the sole purpose of sensationalism.
More US Warcraft players than farmers
October 22, 2007 12:39am
@NoneSuch
I'm sure that many of the above and below posters who find WOW players unproductive were referring to the self-styled hardcore WOW players, namely the ones who only leave their parent's basement for snacks and Bud Lite, as opposed to occasional players who only spend a few hours a day on the game.
@Clayton Counts
Don't forget his love for the word "Peninshula". This guy is pure comedy.

How to board a plane without ID -- be a pageant queen
October 18, 2007 12:17pm
A few strings were likely pulled behind the scenes, not to mention some editing of that footage. It's a "reality" TV show after all.
Crashed drug plane owned by US Government?
October 14, 2007 5:55pm
At first glance at the title, my youthful exuberance got the better of me:
"Crashed drug plane pwned by US Government!?! YEAH! we're winning the war on drugs..."
Oh wait...
Shipping containers as housing
October 13, 2007 5:01pm
These things definitely wouldn't be safe during a hurricane or a tornado, though. Just look at what happens with mobile homes.

New AT&T terms of service: We'll cut off your Internet connection for criticizing us
September 29, 2007 11:08am
The difference is that posting on Boing Boing is a priviledge, not a right. It's similar to your driver's license [minus the $15 fee and a terrible pic], as you can have your privileges revoked at any time, as the mods see fit. Only trolls need worry about that sort of thing happening to them, I assume?
Windows users 20% more interested in God than Mac users
September 18, 2007 9:47am
So...
-Windows users follow a previously existing God?
-Mac users ignore God altogether?
-Linux users just create their own God?
Woman jailed for serving salty burger to police officer

"Excuse me, but it appears that my burger has been previously salted. Would it be okay to get a replacement burger?"

If we had a better healthcare system here in the states - as in healthcare for everyone as opposed to healthcare for only those who can afford it - this wouldn't even be an issue. Focus should be on extending the lives of Americans as opposed to placing blame on whose fault it is for them being sick.
Ice-free arctic in 23 years, and polar bear extinction?
September 8, 2007 10:53am
I've got two lines of thought on this:
1. Global warming could just be part of the natural cycle of environmental changes on this planet [a planet which we still know very little about despite scientific claims].
-and-
2. If global warming is man-made, who's willing to give up their plush, luxurious automobiles to save the polar bears? For that matter who's willing to halt production of products which contribute to *possible* man-made global warming elements through pollution and greenhouse gas? Products which would likely include plastics used in the construction of the computer you're reading this on.

We're all turrists these days if we do something Big Brotha doesn't exactly like.
DoJ slams net neutrality, says all packets not created equal
September 6, 2007 4:10pm
The DoJ need to ask one and only one question:
"What do the American people want done with this?".
That seems to be the absolute last question being asked by any branch of our lovely government these days.
Part of Patriot Act struck down: ISPs must get court approval
September 6, 2007 4:01pm
Just a thought, but how about having to get the customer's approval before turning over their records?

A skilled pilot was flying a single engine plane and it went down. It happens once in a while.
Heck, it happens once a week in Florida. At least one such crash killed 5 family members in their home when the pilot lost control and crashed into their house.
