Israeli citizens sue government for lack of ray-gun defense

March 12, 2008 7:43pm

They'll withdraw the lawsuit after the first hundred or so people are blinded by watching the laser beam "paint" a missile or other target.

They evidently haven't caught on that it is a bullshit weapons system designed for moving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars into defense industry bank accounts. It is a vastly impractical weapon system. I don't expect it to be deployed very often, save in very isolated and unpopulated locations.

The problem between Israelis and Palestinians is that both sides have poisoned their minds, and each new generation is also immediately poisoned. Solve that and you solve the underlying problems. A comic book laser beam is of no use.

Comrade Forno!

Your outrageous and antisocial comments are entirely inconsistent with the noble goals and glorious spirit of the Union of Soviet Capitalist Republics! Please retract them at once, or our heroic Department of Homeland Security will be forced to take measures which we cannot disclose.

Why are you even discussing the "physics" of a work of fiction? It is very clearly window-dressing, and the rest of the production need only suspend your disbelief enough for you to get more involved with the rest of the story.

BTW, Anna is hot, I hope she survives for the whole saga.

Stack of intriguing books from Feral House and Process Media

From Feralman: Hope that Mark F. can withstand everyone's hatred for enjoying Feral House and Process books!

I keep seeing the use of the word "hate" like this on BoingBoing. Disagreement is not hate, folks. We can and do chat, bandy about diverse opinions, expose our varied tastes, and so on without anything remotely resembling hate.

Now, deceitfulness is another matter. From the feralhouse.com Dark Mission book blurb:

"The Freemasonic flag seen on the cover was brought to the Moon by 32° astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and later ceremoniously presented to Scottish Rite headquarters in Washington D.C."

It is truly hard to believe that the juxtaposition of this remark with the photo was not intended to convey the idea that the Masonic flag was secretly raised on the moon's surface. I enjoy zany conspiracy theory as much as the next guy (maybe even more), but the fact of the matter is that this is rubbish decorated with cherry-picked facts.

And Feralman, this is not hatred. It is just idle chatter on the net.

The picture on the cover of Dark Mission purporting to be Buzz Aldrin holding a Masonic flag is audacious. It is almost certainly fake. Here is Alan Shepard in a strikingly similar pose, with the same dish antenna shadow that was not on Apollo 11:

Mark's credibility dives further. First the Glitter Lamb, now this.

Mark: in order to reinstate your standing, you'll have to vindicate yourself by posting something more serious and scholarly, like a recipe for making Hashish or something.

So if we don't like the cheesy graphics we're grumpy sourpusses?

Oh no! Peer pressure! If I say it's irritating and kitschy, like multicolored HTML blinking text or banner ads that flash and vibrate, they'll say I'm grumpy and dig up some old cartoon about grumps! Noooo! Heeelp!

Film review: 2 Girls One Cup

November 28, 2007 7:33pm

This video lends itself to a great deal of discussion, not least of which is the motivation behind "the decision to consume another's feces." The visuals are convincing, one does get the impression that the act is genuine. "Two Girls, 1 Finger," an apparent companion piece of sorts, raises similar issues. What is going on out in the wilds of the human habitat? How common are these practices? Are they real? How long have they been going on? I understand that the "scat" pornographic genre has been around for some time, as well as a broader fascination with female micturation. What implications and ulterior meanings are there for the rest of us, if there are any at all?

All in all, it is worth watching for both the intense morbid fascination and the disturbing implications for human society and culture.

I can't believe the author of the essay got a grade of 0%.
