Radiohead's new 3D-viz video made from Creative Commons-licensed data

July 14, 2008 8:34pm

Thanks for the tip about the higher-rez version, Ukuleleelvis. Of course, it looks even *more* like TRON taped off the TV in 1996 that way, but I think this is intentional. Cool song, and arresting video.

Jesus Made Me Puke: Matt Taibbi Undercover with the Christian Right

Oh, you blasphemous, blasphemous #17.

(Still, what can one expect from somebody with a username that's an anagram for "Satan's Keen!")

This was a few years ago, but I recall a diner in Hearst, Ontario (the Moose Capital of Canada) where you ordered your meal from one server and then told the cashier on your way out what you had for breakfast to find out what you owed.

It does seem to be a small-town phenomenon.

Texas students shut down highway and march 7 miles to vote in gerrymandered district

February 23, 2008 7:15am

@9

The difference between these students and your smg lttl fntsy is this: They are using their constitutional right to free assembly to stage a peaceful protest against an obvious attempt to undermine their ability to vote, while you can't comprehend how this is different from your own slfsh need to consume.

Pornography jaded public want a new orifice -- the Onion

February 22, 2008 9:55am

Is it merely coincidence that this item appears immediately above the "knitted gas mask" that alluringly conceals a number of alternate orifices?

God, I sure hope so.

Southern racists adopt "Canadian" as a euphemism for "black"

January 27, 2008 10:58am

I'm inclined to call shenanigans on the piece partly because the evidence is pretty thin gruel (a single email from 2003?) and partly because the National Post often runs pointlessly provocative articles.

Even when taken at face value it's got to be good news that racist idiots are forced to use increasingly bizarre euphemisms to escape detection from "normal" people. It suggests their social standing is similar to that enjoyed by pedophiles and purveyors of child pornography. So that's sort of a good sign, right?

Amnesty's Unsubscribe Me video reenacts CIA stress-position torture

November 22, 2007 12:22pm

@TNH - Torture is not used to extract information, it's used to *impart* information. It lets the victim know just how helpless and powerless they are; it tells the public how "serious" the US is about terra and security. Look how effective it is at winning the hearts and minds of little Walter Mittys like Avar1ce and Kevitivity. They eat this tough-guy stuff up with a spoon.

Video of man tasered to death

November 15, 2007 5:43pm

Thank you for posting this, Mark.

It's important to remember that the RCMP seized the video from a private citizen and then attempted to prevent its return. It took the threat of legal action to get them to release the tape and it's easy to see why: it makes them look like incompetent thugs and opens the way for criminal and civil suits.

How anyone can defend the police actions in the video is beyond me. Can you honestly say that losing your temper in a public place is grounds for summary execution?

Larry Lessig's TED talk

November 6, 2007 8:42pm

@Zozzen - as the chief architect and promoter of CC, Lessig knows it's "not new". He's pushing the idea to the audience at TED to help spread the word.

Great presentation. I had to give my head a shake and realize I just watched a 20-minute presentation on copyright law...and enjoyed it.

If I'm not mistaken he's using Keynote to present his slides (credit where credit is due).
