Susan Rudat's Moleskine art

July 14, 2008 12:58pm

I like the drawings, but why is it necessary to label this stuff as "Moleskine art"? Would it not be the same if it was drawn in a sketchpad of a different brand?

Alternately, make your own for whatever movie you want (and keep the correct aspect ratio):

Hey! I recognize that guy (the Virgin spokesman) from when Paris Hilton was filming a reality show on my LA to NY Virgin flight a couple weeks ago!

Police pretend students killed to teach dangers of drunk driving

June 17, 2008 11:21am

They just did this at my former high school. Apparently they had a fairly elaborate story worked out in which one student was the "drunk driver" and a few students were the "victims." The victims actually had to GO TO THE MORGUE. And the drunk driver had to GO TO JAIL. Or at least go get booked at the police station. They had the full cooperation of the local police who came into the kid's class and "arrested" him. To top it all off, they apparently had a mock funeral at the school a couple days later. This included eulogy's from the parents of the victims.

Don't even talk. I have a tattoo of Osama Bin Laden with hearts around him on my forehead.

Lego boulder threatens civilization. Update: ugh, "stealth" viral campaign.

May 26, 2008 2:14pm

According to YouTube user JohnKalEl,

"Fake. 1 LEGO brick weighs 2.5 grams. video claims that they used 5 million bricks. 2.5 x 5,000,000 = 12,500,000 grams. 12,500,000 grams = 27 557.782773 lbs, which equals 13.77 tons.
Fez Dude says they used "a million of these". Using that claim, the boulder would then weigh 2.75 tons. Even using the lower value of 2.75 tons, what would a free rolling object of that weight do to the parked vehicle? Fake."

World's most dangerous gangs

May 16, 2008 1:32pm

I spotted some MS-13 graffiti in the affluent LA suburb of Pacific Palisades about a month ago. My guess is either dumb kids who thought it was funny/cool or gang members going to the beach (?). Still unnerving though.

Reminds me of this guy:

He supposedly hasn't sleep since 1973. Don't know the validity of the article though.

Black Flag hair timeline

April 10, 2008 5:09pm

Ill lich - Greg Ginn did manage to do a three show Black Flag reunion in 2003. The funny thing about it (well, actually there are a lot of funny things about it) was his motivation for doing it was for raising money for his cat rescue charity. Apparently he has up to 100 stray cats in his house at any time.

From wikipedia---

In September 2003, Black Flag played three reunion shows, two at the Hollywood Palladium and one at Alex's Bar in Long Beach, to benefit cat rescue organizations (a current passion of Ginn's). The line-up for the shows was Dez Cadena on vocals, Greg Ginn on guitar, ROBO on drums, and C'el Revuelta on bass. Professional skateboarder and singer Mike Vallely also sang all the songs from My War at these shows.

Concept cooking-pot can be subdivided into smaller pots

If you're just going to end up using it to cook similar foods (like three kinds of vegetables), then why do you need it at all? You can just use a regular pot.

Now this is all well and good (and I congratulate you Mr. Doctorow), but when is someone going to get around to translating this book into languages that actually matter. You know, like Skolt Sami or Votic or !Xóõ, perhaps.
