Leaked UK gov't doc reveals plan to "coerce" Brits into national ID register -- MIRROR THIS FILE!

Bruno - we're afraid of the incompetency of our government and the lack of knowledge they display over technologies. They don't understand how databases work and they have very little idea of security.
We are afraid that they will use the data incompetently and immorally and that it will be almost impossible the see what data is held about you and be able to correct false data. I am not a criminal and have never had my fingerprints taken - because I object to having my fingerprints taken I have now had to resign myself to never visiting the USA - some of us feel that strongly. I don't want convenience, I want someone that works and is secure - all the technologies proposed so far are breakable and flawed.
We are concerned that the government is implementing stealth policies but claiming that any id card will be voluntary when we know that it will become accepted and then compulsory further down the line.
Forgeries are easy so the criminals will always find ways around any technologies whereas the innocent will be the ones who suffer.

Supremely awful Hungarian anti-war white rap video

This is pretty old now but funnily enough I was thinking of it this very morning as s prime candidate for running through overstream ( http://www.overstream.net ) a new site which allows you to overlay subtitles onto youtube vids - I thought a 'pop-up video' style load of abuse would work quite nicely on this - a la http://www.overstream.net/view.php?oid=ihiumolqurndu5l7nbl9
Interface: Neal Stephenson's underappreciated masterpiece

Funny timing, I only just finished re-reading thisa couple of weeks ago. I rarely re-visit books so this was quite odd but loved it just as much the second time.
Highly recommended by me.
Boing Boing hoodies 24% off: GAMA-GO 24 hour sale!
December 5, 2007 2:36pm
Oh gee thanks a bunch!
I'm expecting delivery of my pre-ordered, full price one any day now but seeing this discount has somewhat taken the edge off my excitement, I'm now a little resentful about paying full price. Guess I shouldn't complain - should be getting a free courier bag anyway but still...
Britain's Data Chernobyl: more lost CDs full of thousands of personal records
December 3, 2007 7:49am
I've just received my letter apologising for losing my data but amusingly, they sent it to my old address despite having previously acknowledged my change of address.
More worringly though, the letter I received not only had name and address on it, it also had my childrens National Insurance numbers (social security), child benefit numbers and dates of birth on the letter - everything except from their bank details! I've had to carefully destroy that one!
Boing Boing hoodie by GAMA-GO!
November 7, 2007 8:08am
Much like the imaginary foundation t-shirts, they're a good design, the boingboingedness is fairly irrelevant. Just a shame I can't order one since all I get when I try to order it is "Sorry, there are no available shipping methods for your location." - that's to the UK! Mind you, if it had said it would be $100 like the poster above then I'd have stopped right there even with a free courier bag (add one to your order and it'll be free if you're buying a hoodie).
Shame, I liked the design but if they can't ship to the UK (or try to charge $100!) then I'm out.
Dumb lawyers and Flash screw up "No to Knives" campaign
October 26, 2007 9:11am
I can see the Royal Armouries from my office window here and one whole side of the building is a huge glass stairwell with several thousand knives/swords/daggers etc on display.
Seems somewhat ironic that they're the ones running a 'No to Knives' campaign.
(N.B. If you're ever in the area - maybe for BarCamp Leeds for example - the Armouries is actually a great place to visit, despite the ridiculous campaign/website)

STIANG and others - The major point is that Max Mosley's father was Oswald Mosley, the founder of the British Fascist party in Britain.
I'm hugely disappointed with Mr Mosley as I've spent years defending him from accusations of being a Nazi by association because of his father. I'm a strong believer in not blaming a child for the sins of the father but he's blown any sympathy because of this.
I've always thought he was a prime tosser but that you shouldn't use his father's inadequacies against him.
A sex scandal on it's own would have been wrong for BB to post about but the context of this one is what makes it interesting/disappointing.
Now you can all go back to your Nascar racing driving rounds in circles.
