Worst drinks in America

I think "100-percent juice" means drippy stuff from squished real fruit in the case of that article at least. But I've been told that things like "white grape juice" you see among the first ingredients in supposedly 100% juice blends are really just fructose derived from grapes, with all other grapeyness stripped away. So I guess it would be simpler altogether if we just got our required nutrients the old-fashioned way, from the blood of our vanquished enemies.

I'm no nutritionist, but this seems pertinent to me:

Drinking juice not associated with being overweight in children from PhysOrg.com
Children who drink 100-percent juice are no more likely to be overweight and may have a better overall nutrient intake than children who do not drink juice, according to a report in the June issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

#2,

It should double as a generator in that passive mode. Something like regenerative braking in cars, whenever you work against the motors, it should use your physical energy to generate electricity either to prolong its own use-time or maybe to power other personal electronics.

Hey, your dog could also have a couple! He could be a little kibble-powered charging station.

Frame Hanger: a piece of art you hang coats on

April 19, 2008 1:10am

"Hey look! I cut out some some shapes out of this panel!"

"Why did you do that?"

"Uh, it's art?"

"Doesn't look like very good art. Maybe you should go for 'artistic' just to be on the safe side"

"But if it isn't art what is it?"

"Well you could always hang stuff on it I suppose."

"Okay then, it's an artistic coat-rack!"

Batter Blaster: Pancakes in a Can

January 11, 2008 1:23pm

I saw this at Whole Foods last week and picked one up. Yes it was too expensive and yes it comes in a big steel can that seems like a sustainability problem, but I have to say I friggin love Batter Blaster. I don't usually eat pancakes at home because they're so messy to mix up. But with this I can have a plate of hot pancakes in under five minutes.
