Gitmo's torturers decry negative portrayal of gulag in new Harold and Kumar comedy

I hate Gitmo, I hate this war, I hate this administration.
I think Gitmo is illegal, I think this war is illegal, I think this administration is illegal.
I've been ordered to deploy - I was getting out and they stop lossed me.
I hate that Cory thinks I'm a criminal.
Oh yeah, I'd probably hate this movie too.

@ Sue Grant:
Yes, I'm in America (Hawaii). Sorry for the late reply - time zones and all.
Hardware hacker reviews the One Laptop Per Child XO laptop
January 6, 2008 11:56pm
I got mine yesterday morning. Poking around a bit and seeing the features was a great experience. And knowing that I supplied one for someone less fortunate felt great too.
This was my best purchase last year.
TSA to punish fliers for facecrime
January 1, 2008 10:45pm
In theory this would be a better screening tool, in practice - the TSA could make this your worse nightmare.
How long till someone with facial tic is detained and tasered to death?
Amazon Kindle eBook Review (Verdict: Confusing, Expensive...but Promising)
November 19, 2007 5:30pm
For $400 dollars you could visit the One Laptop per Child site, buy a small form, wi-fi laptop for yourself and a child in a developing nation.
Also, get a year of Hotspot from T-Mobile and a $200 tax deduction. Perfect e-book and more.
P.S. The black and white option is legible in bright sunlight outdoors.
Video of man tasered to death

Decency is no reason to ignore a wrongful death!
Boing Boing is not the blog to read for those of you who wish to remain happily comotose to the surrounding world.
One Laptop Per Child sale starts
November 14, 2007 1:42pm
I couldn't get to the ordering page from the website so I tried the phone number on the bottom of the page.
I was helped by a very friendly rep who took my order over the phone.
Best part was being instantly greeted by a human being who didn't have to transfer me. (I think I'll cross-post on consumerist.)
Love this idea, I hope anyone who is financially able seriously considers this.
Obama will support filibuster of any bill granting telecom immunity
October 24, 2007 4:06pm
Clinton has done the same - according to TPM.
Goth Raggedy Ann and Andy

I saw a Goth Ann costume in Wal(mart)lyworld today.
Is this a new meme or just more corporate copycatting?
CNN's Glenn Beck: "people who hate America" losing homes in So CA wildfires
October 23, 2007 10:32am
Maybe some of Beck's conservative buddies can give him a tour of their destroyed homes when this is over.
I don't think that would make him see the light, but at least it might shut him up.
It's hard to feel sorrowful and outraged at the same time, but we've gotten a lot of practice as a nation lately.
Solar powered immigrant shelter provides Internet access
October 17, 2007 4:05pm
@ PHASOR3000,
FWIW, my ancestors were illegal immigrants - snuck over during the potato famine.
FWIW, my wive's ancestors were legal immigrants - brought over on a slave ship.
You have a problem with people trying to make a better life even though we have some of the most restrictive immigration standards, go find out how a Native American feels about enforcing legal immigration.
Micky Mouse vs Mickey Mouse
October 17, 2007 3:56pm
Intarnets Get Rich Quick Scheme
1) Make t-shirts with original mickey mouse featured prominently.
2) Make enough dough to fight court battle.
3) Get sued by Disney.
$) Countersue = profit... or repeat of the Performo story and new Great Depression.
Either way, Disney sucks.
Free poster with a dozen famous conservatives

@ phasor3000,
You're right and I'm sorry.
Opposing viewpoints are respected here, but the post I was responding to was asking for balance.
I should have been more clear that I meant, "Don't complain about boingboing's liberal bias - it's integral to the site."
I didn't mean conservatives shouldn't complain (or post) about anything at boingboing.
As to your other point, "Conservatives are bad, m'kay?" - exactly!

3 step program for conservative posters:
1) Read the last sentence of the post.
2) Realize that is the norm here.
3) Complain somewhere else.
Why is the US Army internet-blocking Time Warner?
September 27, 2007 12:10pm
This isn't affecting Hawaii. I was able to access the newspaper site mentioned in the linked article and send and recieve mail from my Road Runner account to my army.mil account.
Cross posted at Wired.
Iraq bans Blackwater mercenaries
September 17, 2007 11:46am
@ phasor3000
Agreed, both parties are ignoring the genocide.
But, I think if we didn't have the great Iraq misadventure on our hands we would be viewed differently by the majority of Muslims and others.
Had we not gone to Iraq, the will of the UN, the American people, and those in Sudan would likely be behind intervention to stop the violence there.
That's not to say that the Bush administration couldn't screw that up either.
Iraq bans Blackwater mercenaries
September 17, 2007 11:15am
Finally some accountability for the rampant privatization that's been going on.
Now we just need local governments to ban them as well.
These are not the guys you want "keeping the peace" during the next Katrina like event.
BTW, watched a great Bill Moyers on Blackwater a couple weeks ago - they want the US or UN to fund them to go into Darfur. Just makes me sick that we (American soldiers) can't or won't help there because we're bogged down in Iraq.
Garage researcher "burns" saltwater
September 1, 2007 1:02pm
I'm pretty sure it's not the radiation splitting the water into ions.
Microwave radiation is non-ionizing radiation - it can excite the molecules but not ionize them.
Ionizing radiation must be above 33eV.

@DGBELLAK
If I believe the war is illegal yet I still don't refuse to deploy, doesn't that make me a criminal.
The horrible thing is that I'm more likely to be locked up for not going than I am for anything that happens while deployed.
I know that there are lines I won't cross - I won't torture or murder (killing someone who isn't trying to kill me). But, I've already broken the law by participating.
