Power On Self Test: Gulf War III

April 23, 2008 12:29pm

#2 Wow! Neo-Iraqi SCUD gundam? Sounds cool: I gotta get a gunpla of it!

I think middle east loves Grandizer (Goldrake in Italy) since in 1978 italian RAI TV was brodcasting the anime to Italy but the TV signal reached northern Africa and middle east...
anyway in countries like France and Italy Grandizer and Mazinga are still really famous even among old people (even tought they don't know who is Nagai Go).
Actually we had a robot boom several years before USA has been hit by the Transformers mania!

Best practices for water imbibing: "Just drink when you're thirsty"

April 4, 2008 12:18pm

"Just drink when you're thirsty."

if you have ever been at a rave telling dancers to drink when they are thirsty is like the Pope telling african poor people that instead of using condoms they should just give up having sex to be safe from AIDS...

anyway:
if you are a street worker (Especially duing summer) 8 glasses a day when you don't eat fresh fruits and vegetables (and food rich of water) are barely enough to keep you healthy.
If you eat a lot of yogurt, fruits, fresh vegetables problably you can drink a couple of glasses of water...

Water is good! Tap water is GREAT!

China sends in troops to quell monks' peaceful protests

March 14, 2008 2:30am

If you are a chinese and living in a western country and still consider the invasion not an invasion please think about this:
if your country political mantra is right then Italian "People Liberation Army" should invade europe and northern Africa since these areas has been part of the Roman Empire!

ps Is hilarious that China's "People Liberation Army" are killing and torturing people instead of liberating them?!

Arizona students stage hug-a-thon to protest 2-second hug rule detentions

March 6, 2008 9:52am

Is this an april fool day hoax in march?!
Or maybe the reason is that US army is spending too much time in Iraq so they are starting to bring back to USA the local customs they learn in Bagdad...

More Abu Ghraib torture photos

February 28, 2008 6:27am

#9 >> dequeued

funny that USA executed Japanse soldiers at the end of the secon world war who were responsible of probably less cruel tortures...
If you are right, I'm puzzled why US military closed the nazi concentration camps back them instead of adapting it to the NAZI'z "high-spirited fraternity-style"...

The tortures should be contestualized in the politician "kill them all" policy after 911... Maybe I'm wrong but I think Hitler never signed an EXPLICIT order to torture and kill people in concentration camps but does this make him not responsible?

Nazi used to kill 10 people/enemies for each Nazi killed. I think they were kind of moderate if compared to the number of people killed so far in Iraq just for revenge of something that Iraq was not involved at all...

Anyway Saddam was one of the coolest animation character ever appeared on TV so why kill him?!

Alice In Wonderland syndrome

February 20, 2008 11:43am

Few years ago this wasn't a syndrome since we just considered these situations: tripping on a good acid...

Galley: New York Toy Fair '08

February 18, 2008 1:30am

@BLIND Bioloid is already onsale in USA and EUROPE. This robot system has been presented 2 years ago at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. This year Robotis showed URIA: a new robot meant for the research laboratories.

@BEVATRON If I'm not wrong these characters are part of the Castle new lineup.

New York Toy Fair is some way easier to visit than Nuremberg since the German fair is like 5 times bigger and it's not easy to navigate trough all the huge halls and find what you are looking for...
Highlights of the Lego lineup, beside the 50th celebration Set with a GOLD BRICK, are the new Bionicle big spaceships and the Indiana Jones new temple (I posted some pictures on my blog) that is not in the 2008 catalog. Anyway my feeling is that LEGO has finally found new designers that have created great new sets. Since the first Star Wars LEGO set I din't find so many good sets and every line got great new additions. So 2008 looks bright for the Denmark bricks!

Dinosaurs and Robots Dispatch: New Digital Mag from Mister Jalopy and Mark Frauenfelder

sum.zero > CONSUMERS complain and criticize, instead CREATORS make a better thing by themself if they don't like something!

If you don't like it, just make a better magazine...

In the past people "who do not believe creative effort should be rewarded monetarily" have killed many ideas so I like the fact that Mark pointed this out!

Six Ugliest Space LEGO Sets

January 30, 2008 1:46am

Yesterday when I saw this post I was so impressed by the coolness of the LEGOLAND SPACE boxes that I dind't read the title "ugliest Space Lego boxes"...

Wow!

These sets were revolutionary back than since for the first time LEGO produced elements that allowed us to create more complicate space battleships.

"New Elements Syndrome" is a luddite statment started in the 80s by older kids who couldn't accept that their Lego World was changing!

Blip Festival '07 Starts Tomorrow

November 28, 2007 6:46am

My favourite is BLASTERHEAD
(http://www.blipfestival.org/artist.php?artistid=006)

Usually he creates soundtracks for the best selling hentai videogames in Japan and his chiptune style is pretty hardcore...

Cyber Familator Lite Adapter Plays Famicom Cartridges on DS

November 27, 2007 12:06pm

cayton> Famicom = NES
Super Famicom = SNES

the company that is importing this gadget in Japan stared as a distribution company of American Porno videos in Akihabara but they gave up after realizing that US porno censored with mosaic doesn't make much sense...

Cyber Familator Lite Adapter Plays Famicom Cartridges on DS

November 26, 2007 8:13am

If I'm not wrong this is just a DS case for the old Famicom adapter for the GBA SP. Anyway a great way to play Famicom/Nes on the go!

Video: Automan Titles

I loved "Cursor" since this character looked like to one in Tron.

Yamanote Halloween train party

Wow! I'm Disgusting... arigatou ne... you really know how to communicate: you must be a really nice eigo sensei!

Yamanote Halloween train party

October 30, 2007 4:33am

Wow! Judging a place by the governor?!
Are you asking to judge USA from BUSH speeches or a Terminator elected as governor?!

It's not Nirvana at all but here I feel safer and more free since police/potician have way less (bad) influence of society that in USA and Europe... I feel everyone should live where they feel confortable...

torieazu, gomenne...

Yamanote Halloween train party

October 30, 2007 3:55am

@27 if you live in Tokyo you know the value of a parking place (a parking place costs like a garden in a US city), and you know that you don't park in others people private parkings... if someone parks in your garden in the US what are you allowed to legally do?!
But of course I will never condone violence against a car!

> 1. Yes, foreigners act like idiots sometimes in Japan. But remember, large groups of people often act like idiots in cities. This happens EVERYWHERE.

(ever attend a large gathering of people in Japan?) basically you are motivating the japanese xenophoby...

> 2.Japanese people are overly xenophobic. All the bad stuff that happens in Japan isn't the fault of foreigners.

Damn Japs: they even attacked us in Pearl Harbour!!!
Your life in Japan seems overly affected by an army of zombielike drunk salariman that are harrassing you and your girlfriend wherever you are... better go back to a safer place like USA!!

Anyway: Have a great Halloween (maybe not on Yamanote and possibily on the right date)!!!

ps I'm really sorry for NOVA teachers but moving to japan to work for a Yakuza owned company is not the smartest choice...

Yamanote Halloween train party

October 29, 2007 6:01pm

Living in Japan I feel a little bit worried when this kind of things happen: Japan is not like US or Europe, here you got a lot of more freedom but you need to understand that a lot of things even not being illegal (try to walk in a station with a beer in the US...) are not acceptable... here you need a little bit more self judgement that in many western countries (where it is less needed cause a lot of things are illegal so you need only to follow the law)... in Tokyo you can ride a train on acid or totally wasted and NO ONE will ever complain or care if you don't bother other people... in Shibuya you can legally buy many Alexander Shulgin creations or entertain yourself in mizu shobai (sex) shops... and there are places like Roppongi created exactly to have foreigners to let the "to blow off some steam" without trouble with police...
Anyway, when in Rome do as... people who can't understand this simple, and centuries old saying, shouldn't celebrate Halloween too much far away from their hometown (especially on the wrong date)...

Phone Rental in Japan?

October 2, 2007 12:56am

I think the best choice for a month long stay is to actually buy a prepaid ketai in a conbeni store with the help of a Japanese friend (As a result of a new law aimed at stopping illegal cell phone use, from april 2006 it is necessary to have some form of Japanese official document to get prepay or new contract cell phone service). You will be able to keep it functioning for several months if you charge it with enough yen.

Go Mobile is cheap because it doesn't have a daily rent but 100 yen per minute for a local call is quite expensive since it's the same international rate I pay to call Japan with my SoftBank keitai when I'm back to Italy...

Cops complaining about cops writing cops tickets

September 26, 2007 7:00am

This website made me think about american TV shows like COPS: these shows are so violent that if the police of any other civilised country would do the same they would never show it on TV (since that show would be used as an evidence in court)...

Southwest airlines: fashion police of the skies

September 8, 2007 9:38am

What's next for Southwest airlines?
Forcing a burka on all female customers cause 5% of the stock has been bought by an integralist found?!

Anyway, I confess this story doesn't seem really credibile almost from an european point of view: damn! Even the Pope would be happy to take a flight with Kyla...

Excellent knockoff tech toy from China: Benign Girl Cellphone

September 4, 2007 7:38pm

"Di Fara's is the best pizza in the world"?!
I don't like to point out the obvious, but have you ever tried the real pizza? I mean pizza made in Naples or Rome (in Italy)?!
But yes in Bell invented the telephone ^-^ so pizza...
