Walt Disney's grave
December 12, 2007 7:33am
This is the same cemetary where my grandmother was buried several years ago...I had no idea mr. disney was there too. It's a big place, and beautiful...just wish it wasn't right next to the freeway.

Anyone have any idea where this film is to be produced? My first guess is Laika in Portland...for some reason?

December 7, 2007 12:06pm
Just amazing. I can't imagine what she's lived through. It's so touching, and still so incredibly relevant to our world this very moment.... Ahh! I'm officially teary-eyed at work.

@ BUD ORACLE
you know, I really can't decide how the ancient greeks would feel about the olympics today...I think their only contention would be that women are now allowed to compete/attend.
what happens in delphi should stay in delphi (albeit totally awesome)...man i felt drunk just walking around those volcanic fumes.
i love the idea of using these mythical creatures!

CASH music, a platform for Radiohead-style digital distribution that makes fans into stake-holders
November 28, 2007 8:24am
I agree #2, this is really an idea that someone should jump on! It would be so exciting, even as an extension of an already existing online service, like last fm or something.
Daily Show writer explains writers' strike -- if digital content isn't worth anything, how come Viacom is suing YouTube for $1 billion?
November 15, 2007 12:13pm
@boinkboink:
Who, then, deserves the revenue generated from new media? There is no ignoring it, and it will only continue to grow. There has got to be a boiling point (like now) in which the creators of the content finally demand some kind of renegotiation and acknoledgement.
Daily Show writer explains writers' strike -- if digital content isn't worth anything, how come Viacom is suing YouTube for $1 billion?
November 15, 2007 10:27am
The best part of the writers strike is the fact that they are really pointing out how ridiculous all these old execs are...these old dudes probably barely understand how the culture has progressed and media has evolved since their youthful romps in the penny arcades... The trouble is, these dudes seem to be more than happy to collect the revenue from something they don't seem to understand, but they are just appalled when they are addressed on the issue and asked to share this new media revenue with its CREATORS.
In my ideal world, ten years from now there won't be any such thing as an ill informed old man executive dictacting what happens to the talent, acting only a sponge to soak up the revenue...is there really any need for these guys??? The writers may not have gotten a settlement yet but they have sure got the upper hand as far as the public is concerned.

Cremation ashes at Disneyland -- a dusty epidemic
November 13, 2007 11:35am
This is quite shocking, and takes Jean Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation to an entirely new level of horror...
Vinegar as wonder substance
November 12, 2007 11:26am
I don't know about all those claims, but I have to say I've become a believer in apple cider vinegar...at least it's very helpful to control a troublesome digestive system/heartburn.
Consumer Reports corrects "restless leg" drug TV ad
November 12, 2007 11:24am
I'd like to think that most doctors would advise a patient to try these other things (excercise, more iron) before prescribing this drug, only as an absolute last resort...Does it ever work that way?
Corrupt Congressmen say no financial aid to schools that don't send money to DRM services and bust file-sharers
November 12, 2007 7:56am
And I thought there wasn't anything they could do to make me hate them more than I already do, but then they go and propose a thing like this. I agree with those that have stated- these two issues are unrelated! This is far more unethical than some kid downloading free songs...these MAFIAA jerks are digging their own industry's grave.
HOWTO make a speaker out of a magnet, a cup, legos and wire
November 9, 2007 11:51am
This looks like fun! if you want to make a speaker to play a vinyl record (a crappy one that you don't mind scartching up) you can hold a plastic cup with a regular needle or pin stuck through the bottom gently on the record as it spins on a turntable.
its simple in principle, but a great party trick!
Influence of Winsor McCay on cinema
November 9, 2007 11:43am
hurray for winsor mckay! I still remember watching Gerti the Dinosaur in intro to animation class. The movement is bizarre but ground breaking.

The Week on the fall of the music industry
November 5, 2007 1:28pm
This thread is totally refreshing, it seems that for the most part people are becoming a lot more educated about this stuff.
The commoditization of music is like trying to make a science out of a dionysian art...I spent 3 semesters in music business studies realizing that i was only there because i am a musician (and had to change my major immediately), and let me tell you, it was the most insulting expreience of my life to learn about how the 'industry people' view and treat the artists...
in my opinion all the people industry complaining about lost revenues should accept their complete lack of talent and stop leeching off the creations of others.
No friends yet.
