Indiana Jones -- a pinko?
May 30, 2008 10:40am
When I saw the movie, I assumed the Leipzig comment was a joke in reference to the fact that he just got thrown out for being a commie.
Anyway, I guess it's not a popular position these days, but I quite liked the movie. It was nonsensical and silly, but it's Indiana Jones for god's sake. Nonsensical and silly is kind of the point, just so long as it's fun, which it was.
Ford dealership uses bigoted radio ads to sell cars
May 26, 2008 12:13pm
This guy (of the ad) is an asshole. I don't support him or his bullshit bigotry.
But on the other hand, I've met atheists that, when they get onto the subject of belief in god, are assholes to a similar degree.
It's almost as though the act of trying to tell people what they should believe makes you an asshole, regardless of what you are telling them. Why would it matter what someone else believes inside their own head? Unless someone else's beliefs start impacting my life, I have no reason to tell them they are wrong.
But yeah. The guy from the ad is not just an asshole, but a stupid asshole. It's kind of remarkable.
Also, it really doesn't surprise me that this is a radio ad. Radio advertising is by far the lowest form of human communication. Even the ones that aren't offensive for any particular reason, are horribly horribly offensive to me.
Lego boulder threatens civilization. Update: ugh, "stealth" viral campaign.

I saw the new one and liked it quite a lot actually. It's silly, of course, but that never bothered me watching the others, so whatever.
Pedestrian crossing buttons: placebos or legit?

"Astute BBG readers can fill in the punch line to that filthy joke in the comments,"
It's funny because some people aren't sexually competent!
In my town, they don't change the timing, they just make the walk signal appear at the appropriate time. That's what it sounds like this guy is describing too.

I wouldn't give up Kotaku just yet. RPS is great, but they are strictly PC, so if you want any console coverage, you're out of luck.
But RPS is great. They ran a series about the Russian game Pathologic, that was one of the best things I've ever read.
Italian "wedding dress" performance artist for peace raped, murdered

I give up. I'm handing in my membership card. If you humans get better any time soon, I applaud you, but this just isn't working out. I need a new species. I should see if the dolphins are accepting new members.
Gun owners are the happiest people in the US
April 23, 2008 1:22am
This probably isn't a very open-minded statement to make, but I'm gonna say it anyway: That's because people stupid enough to think guns are a good idea are easily amused and don't care about problems that don't directly affect them.
Middlesbrough cops, goons and clerks grab and detain photographer for shooting on a public street

This makes me think of the book Kingdom Come by JG Ballard. The books more about racist fascism than paranoid fascism, but it touches on a lot of that mob mentality, protect the community psychopathy as this story seems to suggest.

Makes me think of the "sitcom" in Inland Empire. Creepy.
Home improvement guy uses skills to sabotage neighbor's house
March 24, 2008 10:22am
Wait what's sneaky about smashing the front door, smashing a light and throwing paint on the house? This guy sounds like a twunt.
Arthur C. Clarke dead at 90

Well, it's sad that the world has lost him, but he had a long life and left behind a large body of work. He will certainly be remembered fondly.

sounds great in theory, but i mostly use a wheelbarrow for transporting things like bark dust or gravel, things that require a shovel to move in and out of the wheelbarrow. Something tells me this thing wouldn't hold op terribly well to vigourous shoveling.
