The Wine Rack: It's a Bra

February 8, 2008 11:31pm

Thank you for the announcement, nice to know that I may have to commit an act of public indecency the next time I fly. If I wore one of these full, I'd be pushing E territory, as well needing some chiropractic work.
Also, who wants body teperature alcohol? I can see using it for water though, on hikes and such.

"I Love My Electric Appliance!" Vintage Advertisements

@ #6, DevoPhill & #8, V:
Me too!!! My grandmother purchased hers for use in the store she worked at when my mom was young. The thing wasn't all that convenient to use, but my word was the the thing darn near eternal, and had a motor on it that didn't just purr, it growled. On cold days I loved it because the "exhaust" was nice and toasty. Our family's gave up the ghost a year ago, and if I hadn't heard about it after they threw it out, I would have made whatever new part it needed. Good luck trying to get *any* model of vaccuum sold now to last for 45-50 years.

Wedding cake clone of bride

January 14, 2008 9:56pm

This is the wrong post to read after seeing Sweeney Todd.
That said, I like #23(BDGBill), #36(Deweyeyed) and #38's(AnthropormorphicToast) ideas.
/really wants to get married, no takers though.

Pinball Hall of Fame in Spirit Magazine

Southwest has an unconventional method of seating arrangement, so it makes sense that the magazine would be unconventional as well. Instead of having assigned seating, they "preboard" via online RSVP 24 hours before the flight leaves. Then you show up, get in your boarding group, and get on the plane. It is definitely my favorite way of flying, because you get some choice of who you sit next to. (And, chances are, if you take a redeye for a shorter flight, you will have the row to yourself.) And like Mr. Pescovitz, I usually find something interesting in the magazines.

Christian Atheism at Speaker's Corner

You got me, I was being too cliche. Sometimes in posts I get into the tl;dr range, but in repairing that I ought not oversimplify. To LiscenseFarm alone, when it comes to the matter of just who God is not a matter of "different perspective"

#15 (Jeff)
I believe you were quoting #9, (LEV3K). I like your understanding of Christ's teachings and Christianity, good on you mate.

#17 (Tom) said: "An example of this is "Christian" positions on divorce and remarriage. Jesus was down on the former and flatly opposed to the latter, with no wiggle room. Yet one can find many "Christians" who have no problem with either divorce or remarriage"

I know I'm really going off topic here, but it is something that needs to be addressed. It is true that many who call themselves Christians see no trouble in postconversion divorce and remarriage. But talk to others, and you will get a completely different story. See, while the divorce rate is about the same in or out of the church, let me intoduce you to a different rate: 20/80. Of the 20% in the church who do 80% of the work in the church, we (I count myself as one of those) cannot see divorce and remarrige so lightly. You see, it is we who are attempting to counsel divorcees as to what on Earth is going on, we who attempt to stand in for the parent that is just too busy with thier "other" family to be at the (insert awesome/tragic event in thier kid's life here), and we who pick up the pieces of a divorce because one or both parties decided they did not want to. So in case anyone who is reading this wonders why some of those weird Christians just really can't be chill about a "tiny little divorce", there's the answer. Also, this is why that it is so rare to ever hear of a postconversion divorce of someone in the 20% group.

Krown's Video-Based Sign Language Pocket Dictionary

nice! My best friend is Deaf, and she would really get a kick out of this. It won't replace interpreters, but it looks like a good one-way dictionary. Something like this has long been overdue.

Premier of Alberta threatens to sue blogging uni student for registering a domain with his name in it

January 10, 2008 1:33am

I'm not really sure what the Canadian Government would say about this, but slightly South it might be considered an imminent domain issue. If things are exactly as Mr. Cournoyer states, then he should keep telling his story, and maybe set his own price for the site, on an open market. That way, he has some hope of getting a decent price for it. I personally thought that the internet was the last (accessible) frontier, but I'd be wrong. Then again, governmental agencies have never had to be bothered with silly little real estate concerns, why continue to do so with virtual estate?

Christian Atheism at Speaker's Corner

um, no. "Christian Atheism" is to Theology as 2 is to binary. and the sign should read, "To follow Jesus reject sin."

Resigning from Napster takes more than 30 minutes

December 29, 2007 3:05am

Had to cancel Napster for a friend. You see, she is at that point in her Meniere's type of Deafness that metal sounds/feels wonderful at full blast, but vocal communication is impossible without some sort of visual clues (subtitles, speech reading, et c.). So when she wanted to cancel it, I offered to call in to cancel it, telling them the gist of the above. With the proper proofs, they did it quite quickly.
Total time: Maybe 5 minutes.

Kid uses mousetrap to catch money-thief

December 25, 2007 1:27am

I know exactly what this kid is going through, and if I could, I'd start up a college scholarship for him or something. High five for him, wish this would have worked for me. But the kids who messed with me all had gang parents, and my school administration knew it as well.

No friends yet.
