Against Ben Stein's wishes, lizards rapidly evolve after introduction to island

May 2, 2008 8:55am

There is no such thing as the soul. Descartes made a mistake when he said "I think therefore I am" There is no "I". There is just the think.

Ben Stein: "science leads you to killing people"

May 2, 2008 8:47am

We should treat the IDers as what they are. Mentally slow. We should be nice, like "That's ok, honey, you can believe in Santa if you like". After all, they're just babies who can't accept reality.

Shoes are bad for your feet? Vindicating the barefoot set

April 24, 2008 7:43am

You people are de-evolving. Are we not men? I will gladly destroy myself physically for the sake of style. It's what being human is all about. I will wear my big heavy boots in the dead of summer, my posture, spine and orthopaedic health be damned. BB is becoming so damned suburban, domesticated and ex-frat-boy-who-wants-think-he's-hip.

Behind TV "military analysts," the Pentagon's hidden hand

April 21, 2008 3:47am

We have something that the general populous of the WWII era and the Vietnam era did not. We have the interwebs. We have BB. We can communicate with each other without having to know each other personally. We can know that we are not alone in our justified paranoia.

Access Denied: report on Internet censorship around the world

April 18, 2008 9:50am

Serious question: Is our Interwebs censored in the US? I honestly don't know.

Rule of Thumb website

April 12, 2008 8:25am

That's so old. That site has been there forever. I used the pizza-buying rule of thumb and ended up with way too much for my business meeting and everyone thought I was an idiot, which I was.

Happy 107th birthday to my grandmother!

Long may she live.

Jeremy Fish's Barry the Beaver toy

April 4, 2008 7:02pm

Morrissey is not whiney, he's sensitive. And how banal to bring up the fact that you find his head to be large or orthogonal. I was talking about his lyrics.

But this wouldn't be about music if Takuan hadn't started quoting again. It's supposed to be about sex toys.

Jeremy Fish's Barry the Beaver toy

April 3, 2008 7:12pm

Quite possibly. But then, everything is a mating request in your eyes, Antinous.

Jeremy Fish's Barry the Beaver toy

April 3, 2008 6:54pm

Quit quoting songs, Takuan. What's next, a hair band ballad mix tape on cassette? If you must, at least let it be Morrissey.

#52: Totally. That person is clueless. Sounds more like acid.

#56: So now a tranny mess can still be hot? Ok, I'll go with it.

BTW, doing lines off of mirrors is so 80's, so old school. We gave up caring about that shit a long time ago. It way turned into just CD cases, the countertop, whatever. Just spill it.

Vintage cocaine party photos

March 31, 2008 3:18pm

#42: Who the hell cares whether they "fall flat" for you, are appealing or not, or seem remarkable? You haven't done it so how would you know? God, the incredible narcissism.

Takuan, cocaine is not like espresso. It's smooth (if you get the good stuff) and can be sensual rather than jittery. You're thinking of meth. Nor does it destroy the inside of your nose like meth. The money part, though--absolutely. Can't argue with that.

Vintage cocaine party photos

March 31, 2008 2:48pm

Why is it "stupid crap" and an implicitly known "mistake" to do lines? I was strung out on blow for over a year, and it was some of the best times of my life. An experience that most of you, from what I gather, will never have. No, one cannot maintain it, but I wouldn't trade it for the world--least of all what you conservatives think of as "experiencing life". Alcohol and cigarettes: Those are legal and thus boring. No one would publish images of people partaking in those much more deadly substances.

Tom, they're all three still with us.

Vintage cocaine party photos

March 31, 2008 1:49pm

#13: What mistake? It's your own judgmental nature that's the problem. Not "living it down" or any of your holier than thou bullshit. I've done things that were that extreme, and I wear my experience like a badge of honor. Lawsuit. Please. Uhm.

Vintage cocaine party photos

March 31, 2008 1:01pm

Also, check the size of that rock in the first photo of the originals. That just makes me want to--no!--wrong number--prank caller--prank caller!

Ji Lee's parallel universes on ceilings

March 31, 2008 12:11pm

Well, if the concept is what is important here, the concept is very weak. I find it childish.

Agreed, tho, teh Ceiling Cat lieks teh ppl lots. No 2 ever diez no moar, k? Psst--djew 'ear tha'?

Ji Lee's parallel universes on ceilings

March 31, 2008 11:42am

Ok, you're right, that was kind of buzzkill. But still. Fine art? Here's what miniature artwork is about. (Disclosure: Rik is my uncle) http://www.frogmorton.com/interiors.htm or http://www.frogmorton.com/hogwarts.htm.

Ji Lee's parallel universes on ceilings

March 31, 2008 11:17am

Parallel worlds? You've got to be kidding. I guess you can just call creating miniatures and sticking them on the ceiling a "Parallel Universe" and everyone will accept it now. He's making doll furniture and gluing it to the ceiling. Nothing more. And there are plenty of people who create miniatures way better than he does.

Fun straws are phallic?

March 18, 2008 2:52pm

I'm confused about the terminology. I have areas that seem to be "male", but none of them have ever been private. And what is the difference between an "external" observer and an "internal" one? The "I" and the "other"? To answer one of your questions: There are precisely 100 male private areas, and yes, each one is unique.

Fun straws are phallic?

#8 Songe: Hilarious. One of the funniest posts I've ever read on BB.

And yes, people like Bailey are what is wrong with the United States, and she is entirely clueless to the fact.

Tibet: China blocks YouTube, protests spread, bloggers react

March 16, 2008 7:56pm

No, I had not heard about the brick factories. That's horrifying. Maybe your posting it here on BB might have an effect somewhere. We know that the Chinese government knows about it. Let's hope.

Tibet: China blocks YouTube, protests spread, bloggers react

March 16, 2008 7:37pm

Those are bold statements, but most are true as far as I know (I've traveled to China quite a few times and have done business with Chinese organizations--which of course does not make me, in any way, an expert)

"Slavery exists on a mass scale in the provinces." Slavery?

Tibet: China blocks YouTube, protests spread, bloggers react

March 16, 2008 7:19pm

Ah-ight!

China: STOP KILLING PEOPLE!

You are not going to achieve your goals that way. Learn from the past. It has never worked in history and it will not work now.

(Oh shit, am I on some list now?)

Tibet: China blocks YouTube, protests spread, bloggers react

March 16, 2008 7:07pm

Shut up. This is a serious issue. All the inside interwebs jokes are played like 8-ball jackets. Joker.

Tibet: China blocks YouTube, protests spread, bloggers react

March 16, 2008 6:56pm

They're only trying to "de-pollute and such" precisely because they have won the Olympic contract. Otherwise they wouldn't give a damn whether their people are breathing fresh air or not.

I'm boycotting. It's hard to figure out exactly how to go about it (very smart people like Takuan help), but I will do what I can. I'm starting today.

Chavez to USA: "Shove your terror list"

Who are we kidding? Chavez tastes power and he wants more of it. Isn't that obvious? Venezuela is fucked. Squash him like the insect that he is and take the the petrol.

Of course the first really successful application for synthetics will be porn. I can't wait. Then I no longer have to worry about Ms. Flesh's "needs" and all that nonsense.

9/11 and drinking water security

March 10, 2008 5:37pm

The scary part (and I think the main point) is that the gubment is citing 9/11 when that incident has entirely nothing to do with it. Water contamination is certainly an issue. But their continued use of 9/11 as a defacto reason to deceive the American populace is far more nefarious.

Vatican comes up with a new list of Seven Sins

March 10, 2008 5:17pm

Takuan, that just gave me chills. Good quote, good call, as always.

Sicily's Mafia-free department store

March 10, 2008 5:10pm

Good for him. I hope to visit his grave, where I will say a solemn and sincere prayer. Thankfully, someone is standing up to those lazy, uneducated, no-talent, worthless criminals.

Vatican comes up with a new list of Seven Sins

March 10, 2008 4:29pm

I'm consistently shocked that there are still roughly 76 million people in the US alone who subscribe to this deadly nonsense. Three times as many as the next largest cult, Baptists. They accuse me of being in a cult because I wear black clothes, and yet they worship this bloody corpse hanging from an instrument of torture and death. Yeah, I'm the one that's morbid.

And you're right, Kid, they just threw those obvious ones in so they could get away with calling drug addicts and scientists sinners. The reason they are against abortion is because they want catholics to make more catholics who will give them more money. None of them are intelligent enough to actually think through the issue.

Oh, btw, I went to catholic school, was an alter boy, the whole nine.

Antinous, I understand your frustrations, and I agree with pretty much every thing you say, but does every single post have to be about your gayness, other people's homophobia, etc.? It's becoming repetitive.

TED 2008: Crow vending machine maker Joshua Klein

XO laptop -- a green miracle of energy efficiency: Video

February 25, 2008 5:49am

I could be wrong, but I believe the Inuit people need to hunt the polar bear at a certain time of year. Would putting the polar bear on this list prevent them from a fundamental means of survival? I guess they can resort to trading bizarre derivatives on the FTSE.

Joel, that's just downright inspiring. When the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to think of what you've done here, in order to lend myself the courage. To be grossly over-optimistic, maybe these corporate liars (and philosophically unethical bastards) will stop lying if they think they're going to get called on it. Right? Right.
