CauseCaller -- one-click to create a virtual phone-bank

May 1, 2008 6:27am

Ingenius, yes, but I shudder to think what will happen if this falls into the wrong hands and it is used on the public by Verizon, Comcast, all the major telecoms, the companies immune to the no-call-list. I can see it now. The sales pitch goes "With CauseCaller telemarketing is such a breeze! And costs the (huge corporate conglomerate) nothing to operate!"

Experiment: 96% of passers-by ignore famous artist's street painting

April 23, 2008 12:01pm

What about the people who stopped to view the painting from across the street, off-camera? It seems a much better perspective than looking at something that's oversized from 2 feet away. That would be like sitting in the first row at the movie theater.

Children's book about plastic surgery

Sounds like Dr. Michael lives in a high-end, bejeweled, shiny box. Just north of Miami Beach. I didn't know you could have your conscience (cosmetic) surgically removed.

Challenge to Canadian Teachers' Federation head: play "Bully" before you call for a ban on it

March 11, 2008 7:15am

I too have bought, played, and finished this game. It's not as deep a "social commentary" as people think. It's merely a new way to define an (anti-)hero and his enemy in a video game.

I think Rockstar has done an exceptionally thoughtful job in recognizing potential political backlash in this game. There are pranks and misdeeds portrayed along the way, but the underlying theme is that of an outcast defending himself and others. What good is a video game that doesn't have some sort of titillating quality to it? All in all this is very tame fare. And not at all important enough to play in school. Learn your fractions instead.

TSA apologizes to "blogesphere" for arbitrary gadget screenings

I can't help but visualize all of those passengers out there who had to empty their bags of their corduroys.

UNICEF photo of the year

@funeralpudding

I agree. I think the poignancy of the photo lies in the girl's expression. Here's a link to the photo on Stephanie Sinclair's website. The whole "Child Bride" photo set tells a chilling story, in my opinion.

Dubious? It's a commercial. It's not as though they claim they've invented a perpetual motion machine.
