Appeals court reverses ruling: now border agents can search laptops without cause

April 22, 2008 5:30pm

I'm quite certain they can threaten you with jailtime if you don't provide the password.

On the plus side, there's no way for them to find data that's just not ON your local drive. Network storage and secure connections for the win!

HOWTO launch-prep the Space Shuttle

Anyone notice the warning on the OMS engine in this pic?

"DANGER

Seems like someone at NASA has a sense of humor...

Poor Customer Service is Killing Sprint

February 27, 2008 11:18am

Oh, this fills me with glee.

I had Sprint back in 2001. I moved from San Diego to Los Angeles, and made a lot of calls looking for work. As it turns out, Sprint had changed my calling plan without telling me...

So instead of 400 daytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends, I all of a sudden had only 200 minutes per month, period. The $215 phone bill was quite a shock.

They refused to lower, reduce, or work with me on the bill in any way. My options were to pay it off immediately, or have it go straight to collections.

Paid it off. Cancelled the service.

Not surprised to see that it's finally biting them in the ass.

This sounds entirely like a guild bank scam, actually.

IBM PC from 1981 hacked to play full-motion video

Kind of a shame that the YouTube video quality is so bad that you can't really tell what's happening with the screen in the shot... ;)

Western Digital network drives crippled -- no serving any multimedia files

December 6, 2007 11:11am

Sparrowhawk: Rename all my thousands of media files due to ridiculous and bogus limitations? No thank you.

I'll just not buy it, thank you very much.

Also, I've put a review on the Amazon product page that notes this issue (it won't show up for a bit). Hopefully this will keep too many people from buying this broken product.

Sharp's Scanning, Multi-Touch LCD Display

October 2, 2007 10:58am

Oh my god. I immediately thought of the old tech support story/joke about the person who called up because she couldn't fax from her computer, and it turned out that she was holding the paper up to the monitor and couldn't figure out why the monitor wasn't seeing it...

No friends yet.
