We Lost. The Telcos Won.

The law itself is unconstitutional (any sort of ex post facto law is), so even if it does get passed it will not provide total immunity. The founders knew that little good could come from protecting criminals after a crime had been committed.

I don't think it will be brought to trial, though. The law passing process just expresses in concrete terms the protection that most of our congress was already set on providing to these corporations, anyway.

As long as politicians' self interest outweighs the interests of the American people and no system of ethics is consistently enforced among those with legislative power, the system will continue to be corrupt.

Did Seiko Ever Make the Second, Much Cooler Final Fantasy Watch?

December 7, 2007 12:12pm

According to this article (http://www.gaming-age.com/news/2001/6/20-90) the watch on the right is the fictional model from the movie upon which the real-world product on the left was based. The watch on the right does not exist in modern times.

If this is true then releasing this picture was a monumentally terrible marketing mistake. The watch they sold is cool, but putting it up against the heart-breakingly beautiful watch on the right is like comparing a rusted out '72 Lemans to a 2008 G35. It's like deciding to bring your far better looking friend with you on a first date. What a let down...

Flying Witch Arcade Game Prototype with Broom

September 21, 2007 8:16pm

Ha ha ha, very funny, but here's the real translation (or as close as my poor Japanese skills can get):

Who is this witch that we see riding a broom? Sally? Or maybe Kiki's Delivery Service?

This broom shaped controller is a necessity for any witch. Made by Taiwan's Game Mega (Mega Net & Tech), it was made for "Parase Drunpe" arcade. Since this is still in development what we see here is just a prototype. If they can get a sponsor, maybe soon you'll be seeing it in an arcade near you?! Tomorrow we will post a video.

(author's name)

Translating names is harder than text, but my best guess is Tokoyama Takeshi. Whatever his name is, I think it's awesome that its direct English translation is "Normal Mountain Hardness".

Star Wars Slot Machine: As If a Million Gamblers Cried Out in Terror

They've had these in Atlantic City for quite a while as well. My friends were all playing them on New Year's Eve.

What the Fuck is Steampunk?

September 12, 2007 2:24pm

I have always hated the term steampunk, both because it is unfitting and also just because of the sound of it.

I think a better term should accurately describe the devices being constructed, have a decent etymology, and sound cooler than the present term.

Something like prototechnology or chronotype or chronofact, or something like that.

Welcome to the new Boing Boing!

New redesign is not too bad, and comments are wonderful, so that averages out well.
