I edit a telecommunications magazine in Hong Kong that covers all of Asia, which I mention for context purposes, cos this reminds me of the time we got a VERY angry letter from a reader in mainland China who was furious that we listed Taiwan as a separate telecoms market from mainland China – clearly a violation of the One China policy. He then went on to denounce me as a racist imperialist American pig. Ah, good times.

I can't prove this, but I'm about 65% sure that Gecko45 was my roommate in the Army. If so, I can at least verify that he once had a ninja suit and those "special boots" circa 1986-87.

All I can add is that the story's been a godsend for the local Chinese language newspapers and weekly magazines, who have cheerfully and helpfully been printing as many of the pics as they can get away with (cropped and pixelated, of course) every single day for the last few weeks. Because there's absolutely no way you can report the story without showing all the pictures to everyone.

For the record, the pop group Twins (one of whom, Gillian Chung, is in the photos) lost a Chinese New Year promo deal with HK Disneyland over this as well. Because no one ever has sex at Disney. Ever.

Seems like Fox News should be all over this -- this is exactly the kind of non-issue Sean Hannity could do three whole hours on. If they can argue ad nauseum over flag lapel pins ...

Personally, I subscribe to the "she never mentioned it before because it would have killed the series and it's all anyone would talk about when Harry Potter's name came up" theory. I also think that says far more about society than it does about Rowling's motives. It's a textbook (so to speak) example of why many gays stay in the closet for as long as they do.

My problem is that I can't really bring myself to say that it's okay for cops to use Tasers or stun-guns on people so long as the perp is behaving like an ass-hat.
