That Violet Blue thing

Is it libel if you only strongly imply that someone has done something so horrible that you cannot even speak about it? Let's find out!
Bank of America enrolls you in "Credit Protection Plus" without your permission
June 30, 2008 5:19pm
"anyone leaving BOA: do not close your account! Leave the absolute minimum balance to keep the account open."
Takuan, BOA starts fining me if I drop below a certain amount. So that wouldn't work. If anything, they'd send bills for their fines.
BOA has always taken over the banks I've been part of, so at this point I've given up switching to banks that I hear don't have penalties for everything besides breathing. But they are, imo, a horrible bank.

"Annika was 12 in 2001, so she's quite likely 18 or 19 by now."
We need a "Where Are They Now?" update on her, stat!

6th severed foot found in B.C.?

It started with a sock going missing now and then in the wash. But did anyone heed those warnings?
Firefox 3 is out!
June 17, 2008 12:45pm
Wow, it does paint the pages more quickly! I like it. Aesthetics (of the Windows version) are good - some curves, which I like. I had to update the old AdBlock to Adblock Plus, but that was easily done.
Torture refugee deported from Australia to China commits suicide
June 16, 2008 1:15pm
Couldn't he have applied to a few other countries while he was in Australia? Or is there a planet-wide rule that you can only apply to one country at a time? I agree that Australia did wrong, but if it was a choice between killing yourself or trying New Zealand, I'd maybe try New Zealand.

Science fiction inspired tees from Atomic Tarantula

I almost bought the THX one, but then I saw the price. No way. A single color print on an unnamed-brand tee for $40?
E.T. peeping tom caught on video, says abductee
June 4, 2008 5:48pm
Apparently, even the still frame release was premature. The video was (and still is) all set to be shown on History Channel sometime this year. But some kooky political groupie asked the guy if he could show the video to local Denver officials to help support some wacky political initiative. So the entire release of this video became a fiasco overnight.
E.T. peeping tom caught on video, says abductee
June 4, 2008 1:46pm
Nope. The video shown on Larry King was a recreation, made to counter the claim that such videos must be authentic. It's not even the same window. And it says recreation in the corner.
E.T. peeping tom caught on video, says abductee
June 3, 2008 6:42pm
@Xopher, you can't have seen the video since it has not been released nor has it been leaked.
At present there are only fake videos available. There are two kinds of fakes: Some aren't even showing the same window pictured in the officially released still-frame; and some of them take the officially released still-frame and animate the window area.
Which giant corporation owns your favorite tiny organic food brand?
March 15, 2008 10:23am
Pepsi also owns Izze, the carbonated fruit soda that has no high fructose corn syrup. When Pepsi bought Izze, they agreed to leave Izze exactly as it was. And they did... then they introduced Izze-esque, which contains "crystalline fructose", a variant of high fructose corn syrup!
Someday food companies will have to answer for causing the epidemic of diabetes that arose when high fructose corn syrup entered the food supply.

The Library of Congress should buy it. But I guess there's no money for America left now.

And who can look at the night sky without thinking of Ringo? I hope she wins. Yoko is a control freak.
Healthy 29 year old man dies after police tase him
January 17, 2008 9:51am
In case anyone thinks Slodo was describing the accident victim who was killed, note the article says the young man was "...on his way to pick up his parents at the airport after they had taken a short trip to Florida." Not someone who had robbed a liquor store at gunpoint.
Topless woman in park used as bait in police arrest
January 2, 2008 7:00pm
"The sunbathing woman is not affiliated with the police department and she was not asked to take part in the sting operation, according to a spokesperson for the department."
Perhaps the lie is in the way they phrased it. She may not have been asked by the police to take part -- perhaps it was the other way around. She may have asked the police to help her catch people who bothered her, and they accepted her offer.
Letter from Yoko to John - 12/8/2007
December 7, 2007 5:28pm
"I've never understood the intense hatred some people have for her."
I believe it has to do with how she has controlled John Lennon's history with an eye towards editing out anything she feels reflects badly on herself. Many people have the impression she was John Lennon's only wife, for example, because she omits Cynthia Lennon from any official histories. And then there's some love song that John wrote about another woman, which after his death she reedited to insert an "I love you, Yoko" into it. So it could be that some people just think she's a control freak who is not a trustworthy person when it comes to preserving John Lennon's history.

Another possibility is that the cop only saw the moon, but whoever reported it saw something else that had since left. The cop's explanation makes sense if he had the guy next to him and they both were looking at the same thing and getting different results.
