Actually, Jack Handey didn't publish Army Man, he was a contributor. The publisher of Army Man was George Meyer, a longtime writer for the Simpsons.

Future Shock on the streets of Manhattan

A quick note on the location of where Cory found the book. Union Square is a big dumping ground for books for one big reason: The Strand. I live down the block from it and every day books that aren't bought by the used bookstore are left behind on some corner.

Here's a few books I found on the street within a block of the Strand a couple of years ago:

Remembering the zine, Army Man

November 12, 2007 7:04pm

I recently talked about Army Man in relation to the current writers strike. Some trace Army Man's development to the previous strike in 1988. The first issue of the 'zine was created before it, but subsequent issues attracted contributions from many comedy writers who had no outlet due to the 1988 strike.

I imagine if the current writers strike goes on for any amount of time, comedy writers would likely create things like Army Man again.

Magazine back issues on DVD

As someone who spent much of his early days on eBay trying to gather up a (still imcomplete) Lampoon collection from sellers, this is great news.

The search functions were pretty good on the Mad DVD, so it'll be nice for when I'm telling a friend about a legendary Michael O'Donoghue article that's in a issue, but I don't remember which one. (Although the Mad DVDs weren't searchable by author... grrr.)

No friends yet.
