Re #25 - I would say so, because you're still rolling the dice. Two poor parents from the ghetto still have a shot at a Harvard elite, and two beautiful rich people still have a shot at an ugly kid who goes on to be a serial killer.

@ #15 - I think your last sentence says it all. Once you start selecting for traits, you run the risk of widening the gap between the haves and the have-nots; that is, the people who can afford the selection technology and the people who can't. How is some kid who may be naturally gifted at academics, sports, etc going to be able to compete with the kids who are designed to do those things even better?

IANAL, but I believe it's illegal to use the (R) symbol if you have not actually been granted a registered trademark from the PTO. Only TM can be used prior to being granted (and paying for) registration.

I'm at Hopkins, and they did a 5-way transplant last year. One altruistic donor and four family donors that were not a match for their relative but a match for someone else in the chain. The operations were all completed in the same day.
