All the main providers (Rogers, Fido, Telus) data plans up here contain a clause in their unlimited data agreement saying that third party applications are not covered by unlimited data packages?

It's a terrible practice that I hope the availability of the iPhone (and Apple's pickiness when it comes to data plans) will correct.
