Scotland Yard wants DNA samples from 5-year-olds in case they grow up to be criminals; Oyster card records to become part of "war on terror"

Incredibly inefficient. Instead of making sure you can catch the future criminal, why not prevent the future crime ... just kill the child. So simple. And certainly cheaper than having to create a cumbersome database, secure it, keep it updated, etc. Furthermore, if parents have more than one child identified for this program, kill the parents too. Clearly they are poor breeders.
*sigh*
Why Are Projector Bulbs So Expensive?
March 13, 2008 11:50am
The timing on this is freaky. Earlier today I passed on buying an Epson LCD projector for $50 with a dead lamp ... because when I priced a replacement lamp it was about $400-500 !
Sure maybe the total price would come out cheaper than a comparable new projector, but the new one would have ALL new parts AND come with some kind of warranty.

Joel,
There's good vintage shopping here in Austin. Make sure to pick up a free "Vintage Around Town" guide (at pretty much any vintage store). There are a couple of good areas where the stores are all w/in walking distance: South Congress (many stores and close to downtown, but can be pricey), and North Loop (fewer stores and just north of UT, better prices).
And, with apologies for the shameless self-promotion, check out my wife's store, Austin Modern (austinmodern.com). Not really into the vintage gadgets so much, but nice MCM stuff nonetheless ... and she ships too. Hint, hint. ;-)
Gallery of beautiful vintage travel posters

It pales in comparison to the shear volume of photos Hamish has put up, but I've got a few photos of some vintage travel posters from the 50s in an old blog entry: http://vintage-stuff.blogspot.com/2006/11/vintage-travel-posters.html
I wish Hamish had uploaded higher rez scans.

Is there some correlation between the push for ebook adoption and the insistence with incorporating a book shelf into every piece of furniture? I know, probably not ;-)
It's more likely a case of people seeing that something gets attention, so they crank the wheel on it.
The last person to jump on will only have one option. Look! A shelf ... with an integrated book shelf!
