Handmade art keyboards are beautiful and expensive

the green curly-cue is a vine pattern for a traditional japanese wrapping cloth called "furoshiki". when i was growing up in japan, just about every family had one of these wrapping cloths tucked away somewhere in the house. growing up i remember manga/cartoons dipicting thieves using them to carry their loot away. this image of thieves and this viney-furoshiki pattern is so prevelant, it's still being used today... by the cops in osaka.
Comparing food products with their package photos
March 25, 2008 11:16am
i can remember watching food stylists preparing food for a food photographer, and i was amazed at the amount of waste... a small village could subsist on the waste from a food shot:countless chicken breasts would be cooked(typically only half cooked) until the grill marks were perfected; gallon containers of ice cream would be cleaved in half to get the right visual effect of the flavor swirls. and the food that was unused? thrown away, not fit for consumption.

Home-made pyramid-shaped electric vehicle
February 19, 2008 1:13pm
it's like watching tom cruise dancing to bob seeger in his underwear... it's kinda embarrassing. have you seen the resume on the website? this guy is a contractor, building homes for a living. no wonder the prototype chassis made of 6x12 lumber.
as far as the aerodynamics and safety of this vehicle are concerned, i'm a little skeptical... especially in a headon collision, i'd be concerned that it's more likely to launch oncoming traffic into the air.
Tentacles at Tokyo fish market
January 29, 2008 8:18am
when i was in tokyo last, my cousin took the day off to kick around town with me, and asked where i wanted to go. i answered "tsukiji" and she responded with a grimace "tsukiji? why do you want to go there?!?? only gaijin want to go to tsukiji." reluctantly she joined me, and we had a blast. after 4 hours of walking up and down aisles of fish mongers and checking out the tuna's before the tuna auction, we were famished. we walked to a sushi bar across the street from the market where all the truckers and mongers hang out after a hard day of fish slinging, and had an awesome sushi breakfast. i've never had fresher uni than on that day... after we got back home, she stated that it was one of the coolest excursions she's had in years and would be going back soon, even though she's not gaijin.

the truss dobsonian telescope is typically without an enclosure. pretty much a parabolic mirror on one end of an open frame. always thought these were the coolest telescope designs.
Photo of "The Monster" pizza

so it's not really a pizza, they deliver it flat so it's cold by the time you get it... it's really a left coast nouveau interpretation of a roast beef sandwich.
