Sharon Stone suggests earthquake in China caused by "karma"

Well, if the Chinese Earthquake is karmic reaction, I guess Hurricane Katrina was pretty light for what the USA have done lately.

Social worker befriends mugger

March 29, 2008 3:07pm

This guy is just incredibly lucky.

I've just been mugged right outside my apartment today (at 2:30am), despite the fact that I was on high alert, and they knew that I'm aware of their presence, they still tore me down, kicked me, and try to take everything I have. I lucked out when a neighbour shouted out what's going on, and I shouted back that I'm being robbed.

If this guy ends up having a couple of stab wounds, don't forget to say "I told you so."

Chinese film star's sex-pix leaked by laptop tech, spreading everywhere

February 20, 2008 1:15pm

It's quite pathetic that Hong Kong Chinese thinks that because being a player justifies having their privacy breached, or that he's a pervert (I've seen those arguments in Chinese). The law used to prosecute the techs that distributed the photos are antiquated, and instead, they should've prosecuted them based on privacy laws.

Whether Edison Chen is a player, or what he does in the bedroom is the business between him and whoever he is with. Hong Kongers really have nothing better to do than to poke into the private lives of others, calling them perverts, but doesn't not realize that they themselves are perverted and warped.

Netgear's tiny Network Attached Storage RAID -- just right for a home entertainment/data server?

December 27, 2007 10:24am

IMO if you already want to build a MythTV setup out of Linux, you might get more enjoyment if you just build the storage yourself.
I've seen a boxing day special on NCIX.com (although store only, i.e. Vancouver only) that prices an AMD Sempron box (case+mobo+cpu+mem) at about $120+CDN, and you can add your choice of drives.

Chances are, the Infrant (now Netgear) ReadyNAS would be your typical software-RAID in a small form-factor, whereas if you built it, you can actually plug in a real hardware SATA RAID card into it, speeding up any rebuild that you will eventually come across.
You can even hook it up with SATA hotswap bays if the SATA controller (software or hardware RAID) supports hotswapping

A 3TB setup with the ReadyNAS won't be cheap anyways. Might as well cut some of the cost with commodity hardware. The ReadyNAS won't be cheap if you plug in 1TB drives, and as other have said, if it breaks, SOL.

11 slaughterhouse workers ill, inhaled pig-brain matter suspected

weightedcompanioncube: how does that make any sense? Unless the persons involved all have some auto-immune problems, your body should not attack your brain cells just because it has detected foreign brain cells.

Video of man tasered to death

Distraught? Wll y sm t hv lrdy tkn stnc.
I would use disgruntled, angry, foolhardy, but not distraught, even if he did wait 10 hours at the airport.

And no, I've been told by a visiting RCMP in highschool (I live in the Greater Vancouver area) that a collaspable baton to the head and chest is considered lethal force. Non-lethal use of batons would be restricted to limbs, if my memory holds.

A chair to the right parts of the body would be equivalent to a baton to the right parts of the body, only with more weight and momentum. I would think you wouldn't say that the chair is not a deadly weapon if he broke one over someone's head, and cause major damage.

Review of $35 Blackwing 602 pencil

Wouldn't it be easier if they spend 30-40 bucks on a Lamy Safari fountain pen? Sure you can't erase it, but you won't need pressure to write.

Trent Reznor to China: download our music, don't buy it from pirates

September 13, 2007 9:20am

I love repeating my point that I bought more CDs when Napster was around then after the crackdown, but anyways.

Even if you don't care for NIN, you have to give them credit that they're releasing their songs in multitrack audio, which allows people to remix them easily. They've released tracks since With Teeth. I've downloaded Year Zero simply because I want to listen to be before the release, and went and bought it on the first day.

It's the RIAA and the industry that doesn't get it. If the music is good, I would much rather mail the artist a $20 and keep my mp3s - they would've got more money than through the labels anyways.

Leatherman Skeletool: Lightest Full-Sized Multi-Tool

September 7, 2007 9:44am

Frankly I prefer the SOG PowerLock
It's heavier, but damn, that thing's got grip. Also the multitools should really drop the knife. Most of them are not properly sharpened anyways, and many of them have lousy locks.
