Fat Man and Little Boy had a 'recreation' of the accident (if I recall the film correctly, it seems like it was a combination of the two accidents described in the Wikipedia link). It was John Cusak's character, Michael Merriman, who slipped and he physically removed the hemisphere.

You really need to go to the official Colour of Magic website on Sky one, just to see the loading screen - won't make much sense for the people who haven't read the books with Hex in them, and especially whichever one it is that the joke is from... (can't remember it off the top of my head)

Top Gear had a look at Rinspeed way back in 2002, I believe. Back then it was a Lotus Elise/Hyrdofoil hybrid that went plenty fast enough over water...

Hey, if we're going to get picky - whoever did the album covers could have at least got the Abbey Road album at least a little more accurate - Paul is the only one with his right leg forward. Out of four, he only got John's leg configuration correct.

I can't wait for this! Now that I've started taking the train to work I've been re-reading the series, starting with The Colour of Magic. I've just started Mort so I've got a long way to go, but by the time I finish Thud! we should have the paperback down here in NZ...

We're still using ours and first heard about them from our neighbours, who used it with the tick, but that was so annoying we never used ours with it switched on.
We only forgot to switch it off a couple of times, but then it becomes ingrained. The most annoying thing is if you forget to switch off the remote before switching off the main unit you get loud white noise coming out of the remote, even if the volume is all the way down.
