Olympus WS-110 digital voice recorder

July 25, 2008 7:36am

@ #43, I second all of your comments. I've steered clear of all the fancy "voice-recorder" specific devices, just because it seems like they're overcharging for what they're putting in them. 256mb of memory? seriously? in 2008?

I've been using a sandisk sansa clip for my interviews, just because I can walk and talk with them. the mic is hilariously low quality, but it's still fine at getting voice, and being able to clip in on my shirt or pocket and move around with the subject, without holding a device in the air like a toolbag has been AWEsome. having the device disappear is essential. not even a mic with a wire is as discreet.

plus they always say, "good god that thing is tiny."

Post-apocalyptic bookmobile PSAs from Mississippi

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this. I have been trying to figure out what the hell I watched in Library way back when for YEARS, but I never knew it was just a Mississippi thing! God bless my home state.

Damn. This is so awesome.

Now if I can just find the claymation "frog and toad" videos from PBS.

these look just like the cool bracelets from dynomighty. i can and have played with those things for hours and HOURS. it feels like they have a memory, or that they're trying to understand what you want them to do.

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is out

April 24, 2008 11:37am

those are my thoughts exactly. i fail to understand the necessity for a sub-notebook thingy with XP or vista on it, not even saying anything bad about XP or vista. They and OS X would feel almost bulky on a little guy like that.

Bush wants to bring deadly livestock virus to heart of livestock country

I imagine the pitch of this idea to the white house went a bit like,
"let's put American research back into America!"
"SOLD! there's a man that talks sense!"

The Macbook Air is Not a Sub-Notebook

January 16, 2008 1:11pm

y'know what i really want to do?

Ever since i saw sir jobs pop out his presentation slide of the motherboard, and declared "there's a whole mac on that thing" I've been pondering. Then he put the graphic of the motherboard next to pencil for comparison, all I can think is about how to hack one of those wee boards into a truly ultraportable mac.

Since it's all so self-contained, with the cooling systems being it's own little add-on, it can't be that insane to do. Could it? I'm not dropping almost 2 large to find out though.
