Food that turns from liquid to solid?

July 30, 2008 3:21pm

As a guy that recently left half a carton out all day, on a day when the temperature soared into the triple digits (F), I can confirm:

Milk turns from liquid to solid when heated.

Also: Ew.

Invisible nostril filters for allergy sufferers

My guess: not only is this useless against allergens (for the reasons Bardfinn laid out).. but this thing gets real gross, real fast.

Apple Geniuses to get even more douchey

April 29, 2008 6:41pm

I'm not feeling spiteful, or offended (#31's Douche/Twat observation aside, I find it hard to see how this post could actually offend somebody).

It's just [incoming cliche] I've been reading BB/BBg for a loong time now, and this kinda random annoyed rant.. hyperbole or no.. I just don't know what it's doing here.

It's Boing Boing. Show me something Wonderful.

Apple Geniuses to get even more douchey

April 29, 2008 3:05pm

Apple store employees are going to get new T-shirts.

So, umm.... why is this on Boing Boing Gadgets, again? (Not really the happy celebration of gadgetdom I've grown to expect/love. No real content. Kinda feels like a 250-word excuse to call some college kid a douche)

Sorry, :(

Against Ben Stein's wishes, lizards rapidly evolve after introduction to island

April 23, 2008 1:53pm

@#45: Thanks for writing-up a thought out response. I was afraid I was just going to be mobbed with insults and FSM references. (that's why I usually keep my mouth shut about these things, and that's why I'll bow out of this discussion for now.)

(that: and it's lunchtime)

Against Ben Stein's wishes, lizards rapidly evolve after introduction to island

April 23, 2008 11:48am

@#17: Touche.

@#19: I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really want to. The ads make it seem like it's just a documentary about teachers getting fired for religious beliefs.. but the internet reaction is that it's some insane rant preaching creationism. I wanna see who's right.

..but yeah, this could have been a really nifty post about some super sweet science find. but that headline just reads "Ben Stein is a crazy old man and you are a fool for believing in a higher power; Also: Lizards."

So: frown. :(

Big frown on the unnecessary Ben Stein slam. :(

1979 pot smuggling attempt -- dope pressed into LP shaped discs

CIA's "terrorist buster" logo

October 23, 2007 4:26pm

Not only does the new CIA Anti-terrorist logo look hilariously like the Ghostbusters symbol... but a quick 'Find/Replace' in the lyrics can turn Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbusters theme into a paranoid, patriotic, jingoistic propaganda song:

If there's something strange in your neighborhood
Who you gonna call?
Terrorist busters!
If there's something weird and it don't look good
Who you gonna call?
Terrorist busters!
...
I ain't afraid of no Terrorist!

Deceptive flower sign

September 13, 2007 11:47am

This reminds me of a sign I saw in a grocery store back home: Jumbo cantelopes were available at "2/3.00", which would be 1.50 a piece... but below the big, bold numbers was a tiny li'l "EACH". That meant the two cantelopes were 3 bucks a piece, 6 dollars for the pair.

There's a pic of the offending sign here.

I should mention, though, that I didn't confirm the price by getting myself some cantelopes, and it's likely some kid just screwed-up when they printed-out the sign. But even if this sign isn't as intentionally deceptive a $4 dozen of roses that'll cost you $10, it's still pretty confusing.
