Using a record-cutter to turn old CDs into 45RPM singles

I gotta give mad props to James "twig" Harper and Carly Ptak of Nautical Almanac fame for doing this years ago (1999) Nautical Almanac had a release with lathe cut on one side and CDR audio data on the other.

they are best seen to really appreciate but the records are killer too. Carly Ptak's solo album, Prepare Yourself, is always on high rotation at my house.

I need 66 and 110 bits too. Sometimes when I am chasing a pair I hold the amplifier and run my finger down the block. Every once in a while there will be a call coming in on an analog pair and DAMN! That F#@&King hurts! Annoying but harmless. What really hurts is picking up a 100 pair feeder that was in direct burial and getting a sound jolt from dozens of ds0 lines. "Is it cut from the dmark? yeah, oh wait, no. sorry"

Actually, New Weird America was coined by Matthew St. Germain. He runs Freedom From Records and co-hosts the DeStijl/Freedom Fests of yore. The Wikipedia entry erroneously attributes the label to David Keenan of The Wire, but MSG coined the term in a newsgroup post around 2002.
Oh, and co-caine!!!

@ACB
OMG, you nailed it!
I've been to quite a few freak/avant folk fests. Though I am more partial to the New Weird America label since it covers more than folk. I gotta say, drugs and trust funds are major factor behind the "vagabond" fascia. Real folk still exists, but you won't find it coming from the cultural hegemonies of Brooklyn and San Fran/Oakland.
Six Organs of Admittance is the bomb, as well as, Jack Rose, Cherry Blossoms, Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice.
Nashville copyright bill protest this Weds

Browsing the Intertubes is copyright infringement since caching to disk is stealing a copy of copyrighted digital media. I'm in Nashville so I might be able to come stand against this goofery.

I live in Nashville, which is pretty hilly but pretty bike friendly in the core metro area. I grocery shop using a hybrid with 700c tires and a set of metal basket panniers. I commute on a single speed road bike from the 90s with no problems. I will occasionally hit a sidewalk if an intersection is too congested or road work impedes a lane ,etc . . . I never do so if peds are present, I will walk the bike instead. Another pet peeve of mine is cyclists who run lights and stop signs and go the wrong way down one-way streets. You want the respect we deserve on the road? Stop breaking the law. Hand signals work too.
