Precision-cut "puzzle furniture"

May 19, 2008 6:55am

@GLShade:

It appears there are no adhesives involved, simply plywood bits that slot together securely.

My only real complaint is the cost: an unfinished 3-shelf narrow bookshelf unit is $150 (well, $149.99). A 5-shelf wide bookcase is $500. They can't be that expensive to make oneself.

Plans for similar furniture has been around for a long time. I just bought from a library book sale Nomadic Furniture, dated 1972, which included designs similar to the stuff from Real Simple Furniture -- no fasteners, just plywood designed to slot together.

Droog's Do Hit Chair, complete with sledgehammer

$6718? Unreasonably high.

The linked-to catalog page says $250, which is more reasonable. I wouldn't pay it ($250 for a DIY chair that's going to be full of sharp angles and no cushioning?), but I can see how some people would for the "art" value.

Kids scare each other by impersonating online pedophiles

So let me see if I get this right...

On the one hand, you have creepy 30-year-old men pretending to be pre-teens so they can get into the pants of pre-teens.

On the other hand, you have pre-teens pretending to be creepy 30-year-old men to scare their fellow pre-teen friends.

So I guess if I want to meet 30-year-old men online, I should pretend to be a pre-teen?

No friends yet.
