CCTVs don't solve crime in UK; Scotland Yard's answer: more CCTVs!
May 6, 2008 10:20am
I can tell you this much about those CCTVs in the UK, they are one of the reasons that I will not visit the UK right now. The scope of Orwellian surveillance in the UK is bettered by no other "free" country in the world. The other country that I refuse to visit until they get their collective shit together, is the US. Of course, that won't be happening in my lifetime so ...

The SCTV skit with Richard Harris singing MacArthur park on Mel's Rock Pile is one of my personal favourites, so much so that I went out and bought the album,
Dick Cheney's shades reflect a strange being
April 10, 2008 8:26am
Looks like a naked woman to me, mind you I'm usually on the lookout for naked women. That prick Dick Cheney definitely does detract from the experience.
Treasury Dept confiscates domain names of Brit travel agent who booked Cuba tours
March 7, 2008 9:52am
URINALPOOPER, if that is your real name, you make an excellent point. You might also want to point out though, that 10% of the american adult population cannot join you at wal-mart because they are currently incarcerated.
Cuba is a lovely place, just got back from Holguin and environs, made even nicer by the dearth of loud obnoxious americans, although the loud obnoxious brits come a close second. The poverty is pretty brutal though, and the continuing embargo by the US is just mean at this stage of the game, and all for being p0w3d by castro 50 years ago. Hell hath no fury like a republican scorned.
Spongebob Squarepants Rectal Thermometer

Can someone tell me why exactly this is "wrong on so many levels"? Someone doesn't have kids if that's what they think.

Board/card games made from video games -- cataloguing the unfun spawn of twitch games
January 30, 2008 10:43am
I have this new board game called "Google"! It's great, you pick a search card and then roll the dice and move forward or backward that number of spaces and read the result. Oh, I forgot to mention that the dice has 2.4 billion sides.
Southern racists adopt "Canadian" as a euphemism for "black"
January 28, 2008 7:50am
Interesting, because these same people, if they were Canadians (not black, I mean living in Canada, of course they could be black but you know what I mean), would be the ones reading the hateful right wing rag called the National Post.
500 Euro notes not welcome here
January 28, 2008 7:45am
I now avoid bank machines that spit out $50 CDN bills (about 50$ US) because I run into so many businesses in Montreal that refuse to take them, or give you a hard time, let alone 500€ notes, that's insane.
Israel eyes thinking machines to fight "Doomsday" missile strikes

Photo of kids on go kart hitching ride on truck in Peru
January 10, 2008 12:17pm
We used to do this behind city buses in the winter, when the streets were snow covered, we called it "shagging a lift". This was in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in the early to mid-70s. I only knew one guy who was injured when he flew off the bus when it took a corner and the snow cover disappeared (he broke a leg). It was otherwise great fun slingshotting around corners. I remember being at the back of the bus with 5 or 6 other guys hanging on for dear life, and doing 40 or 50 kph.

the site is crap. No commenting system, horrible late 90s look and feel. A good idea, doomed to fail because of poor execution.

Drive cradle makes it easy to swap around SATA drives

If it were eSATA it might be an interesting product, USB is too unstable for this.

Don Martin was the best, the best I tell you, the best. Thanks Coifmo. BTW, anyone who thinks this is plagarism is full of it, the editor was absolutely right to stand by the artist. That guy Todd from David&Goliath got caught plagarising, not this guy.

Michael Brown, FEMA's Katrina boss, offers S.D. wildfires advice
October 25, 2007 1:22pm
I think Mr Brown might have some good advice to offer, regardless of how badly the Katrina debacle was handled.
TSA's crazy screener-testing: giving "bombs" to regular passengers to sneak onboard?!?
October 22, 2007 10:29am
I wouldn't do this for a million ... okay, maybe a million ... no because then the bomb would probably be real ... I wouldn't do this for a million dollars. What are the chances that you get nabbed like that idiot girl in boston with the electronic devices strapped to her shirt? I'm sure that Rush Limbaugh's mouth breathing listeners would jump on this as patriotic 'mercans though, which would be a good thing if they got caught.
HOWTO make crystal clear ice
October 13, 2007 4:29pm
Yeah, that was pretty funny bit about decomposing the minerals. Concentrate more like. I imagine that boiling the water once to remove any dissolved gases would be sufficient so the recipe is more like, boil some water, wait a bit, freeze. To take advantage of the Mpemba effect freeze water while still warm. Google it.
MIT student arrested for entering Boston airport with "fake bomb"
September 22, 2007 6:42am
Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid girl. Jeebus fsck that is stupid. And no, they didn't arrest her because she didn't have a bomb, they arrested her because she was stupid. Unfortuantely they now have to follow up with arresting 50% of the american population who voted for that stupid fool in the oval room there.
