Interesting video about ads in Times Square

You know, that's one of the things you give absolutely no thought to, but when you're told about it, it's absolutely fascinating.
Thanks, guys!

Johnny Bunko -- optimistic and iconoclastic career guide in manga form
May 31, 2008 5:04am
@holtt:
I'm in a very similar boat.
It's worth pointing out, though, that the Kudos (or was it Cascaid?) software my high school careers guide had me down as being either a games programmer, games tester or games journalist.
Joke was on it, though- I'm a games designer.

Mother Jones on TV's Solitary
March 14, 2008 12:43pm
...while I don't buy into the whole auto-hate of reality TV which seems to have permeated the internet, I'm going to concede that this is probably too far.
If you're going to do psychological experiments of this ilk, then it needs to be friendly- Channel 4's "Shattered", a reality show where the contestants had to stay awake for a week, managed to avoid a massive shitstorm simply because all the events were things like being made to cuddle teddy bears or have lullabys sung to you, and a cameraderie between the contestants was encouraged- as opposed to the likes of Big Brother where it's all about conflict.
Of course, I could be falling for overnegative reporting of the show- it's quite easy to gather together a negative view on this show on a blog as politically charged and... let's say "opinionated" as BoingBoing.
How alternate reality games work

It's a shame that in all these articles, the Nokia Game is rarely mentioned.
While it was not as advanced as those mentioned in the article, it certainly predates them by a good few years.

Manga Bible -- Genesis to Revelation with giant killer robots
February 19, 2008 3:25pm
Funnily enough, I had a (western) graphic novel edition of the bible when I was a wee bairn- and it was more or less the whole shebang, too.
I probably don't still have it. But still, I'm sure someone got something out of this piece of useless information.
500 Euro notes not welcome here
January 28, 2008 1:25am
A lot of places in the UK won't take £50 notes.
This has been taken to an extreme by one bar I used to frequent which had a large replica of a £50 note on the wall behind the bar, accompanied by some hilarious comment about not accepting £50 notes that are "fucking massive".

McDonald's UK CEO: kids are fat because of video games
January 11, 2008 2:00am
@saosinned: I should imagine it's because Hardees, Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen aren't coming out and trying to blame some easy scapegoat for something that is predominantly their own doing?
As much as I agree that McDonald's come in for a disproportionately high level of flack in comparison to their competitors, if they're going to pull stuff like this which the rest of the fast food industry does not (or has not) then it is them that deserve to be berated for it.
Either way, Easterbrook is wrong to single out games in the way he has- you burn just as few calories watching TV or reading books as you do games, if not less, and I don't hear him complaining about those. He also makes the mistake of forgetting that there's more to exercise than sports- my time may well be spent subsisting on fast food, playing video games and avoiding sports (I blame school for that one, but that's another discussion) like the plague, yet I walk to work every day and I'm somehow managing not to be massive.
The irony is, of course, if McDonald's wasn't the company that gets all the negative attention, he probably wouldn't have made the comments he did. Oh well.
