Sony-Ericsson goes ultra-thin with new walkman phones

July 22, 2008 7:59am

They also use proprietary headphones - the HPM-77 it comes with /has/ a 3mm headphone jack, but it goes into the handsfree cable, so you need to have that on you at all times.

This might explain why teenagers about here walk about with their tinny music blaring on their mobiles instead of sticking headphones on. Kids these days, eh.

In other news, get off my lawn.

Sony CEO: Wii is "expensive niche game device"

July 14, 2008 5:58am

I can't believe he's still pushing the notion that PS3 demand outstripped supply. Does he think goldfish beat us on memory tests?

SCEA's Jack Tretton used that spin at the time:

Building festooned with inflatable tentacles

July 9, 2008 11:05am

I presume these are flapping wildly? Please let there be video. And James Mason standing in the window saying "It's a recipe of my own, sautee of unborn octopus."

Gorgeous recreation of sleek 1930s Pashley bicycle

July 1, 2008 7:05am

Thats Pashley not Pashnell. All of their bikes look gorgeously retro like that, although I think to ride that one you need googles and a flat cap, and a manservant in front with a red flag.

BTW strider, the cool seat is a Brooks, you can get them for other bikes; very comfy they are too. Handlebars in that style ('North Road') can be had here. That's without the leather, but Brooks also do leather bar wrap.

Moog Guitar: synth legend unveils an axe with auto-mute, infinite sustain

June 10, 2008 7:18am

The most surprising part of this announcement would be Bob Moog unveiling anything - since he sadly passed away in 2005. Its Paul Vo, at Moog's old company, thats doing this.

Restaurant lays off waitress who shaved head for cancer charity

June 6, 2008 2:40am

Its not even a full shave (not that that makes any difference - the restaurant is being dumb). See the photo here:

My hair's shorter than that. But then, I am as bald as a coot.

Dave's Adjustable Hot Sauce lets you dial in the pain

May 12, 2008 10:57am

What we need are some bigger adjustable bottles, with Gin and Vermouth. Except without the Vermouth and the bottles.

Imperial pint glasses declare European conformity

May 2, 2008 9:51am

I notice those are pint-to-rim glasses, btw, generally frowned on by real ale drinkers - its pretty much a guarantee that you're not getting a full pint. CAMRA have been campaigning for a long time for pint-to-line glasses instead, and that is what you get in 'decent' pubs.

And with any luck the punk will be carrying a polycarbonate 'glass' these days - round our way the pubs that mainly serve yoofs use those to cut down on the glassings (and having been glassed myself, I wholeheartedly approve)

Flip & Tumble Bag easy to stash

April 13, 2008 5:00pm

I have a pocket messenger bag from banjo bros:
http://www.banjobrothers.com/products/01120.php

Does what it says, it fits in my pocket, for things I didn't plan to carry; and (obviously) it works when you're cycling too.

Clever Indie Game: Fez

February 20, 2008 8:39am

The rotate-to-make-game-geometry-work thing is also reminiscent of Echochrome (aka OLE Coordinate System). I notice Kotaku is currently reporting Echochrome will have a March 19 release.

Yamaha BodiBeat Plays Music at Your Pace

February 5, 2008 6:36am

Since this is supposed to be a sports mp3 player, it bugs me that they used that style of headphone - they don't stay in your ears when you run. (or maybe its just me thats cursed with greasy lugholes)

I use 'earhook' style phones for running, if I'm listening to music at all; I like to hear the car thats trying to kill me.

Nextwave Agents of Hate: merciless attack on underwear pervert comics

January 29, 2008 8:45am

Warren Ellis posted an explanation at the time:
http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=3149

Basically it didn't make financial sense to continue it as an ongoing series, but it will return in future minis.

Cyberpunk bronzes of Christopher Conte

January 28, 2008 2:54am

Anyone else thinking of the device from Guillermo del Toro's Cronos?

French law proposal will force ISPs to spy on users and terminate downloaders without trial

November 27, 2007 6:33am

The email notification scheme is crazy.

It introduces a class of email that you cannot have marked as spam (or you may ignore it and lose your account). This means that *fake* emails purporting to be from your ISP regarding this law must always get through.

My spam folder is already awash with "Your account will be suspended" mails - what happens when I have to read every ****ing one of these? And potentially reply to all of them in case it really is my ISP?

Someone hasn't thought this through.
