Italian "wedding dress" performance artist for peace raped, murdered

A sad and awful story.
I usually say that hitchhiking is an indicator of the general level of trust within a society. For instance in smaller European countries hitchhiking is absolutely normal for many people including young women on their own. It goes on and nothing unfortunate like this has ever happened. Of course it is possible that the scales tip and something awful does happen, everyone will panic and the overall trust level drops. Once this happens the effects are irreversible. As hitchhiking was absolutely normal in the US up until, say, the late 1970s, we can see where the general level of trust is going.

HOWTO Earn an artist's living in the 21st century: 1000 True Fans
March 5, 2008 12:37pm
This model could definitely work, although I don't see it as a total solution.
Artists should not try to survive off a single source of income. So whether you have 500, 1000 or 10,000 True Fans its still important to tour, exhibit, sell merchandise is shops, sell limited edition items, special order items etc so that the income arrives from a number of sources. For so many artists I know this is how it already works (except they're called side-jobs) Being creative means being flexible and adaptable.
Also, we need statistics and varied models for different fields. The True Fan numbers and ways of collecting the money will look quite different for writers, musicians, painters, dancers, photographers etc.
Documentary about avant folk
March 4, 2008 11:35am
Some of us need our music packaged to suit our demanding neo-folk lifestyles. That's why we should only trust Freak Folk branded entertainment, or should we call it Freakertainment?
Does that mean musicians like Alice Cooper, Grace Slick, and Elton John were really playing freak rock? 'Cause they kinda sing in freaky ways sometimes.
With all this confusion man I just can't look at my dad's Freedom Rock branded LPs the same way anymore.
Do coat hangers sound as good as Monster cables?

Disneyland's new House of the Future will look like the boring recent past
February 21, 2008 7:33am
This shows the sad state human ingenuity when the "future" is no more than promotional outlet for contemporary corporate products. How can we allow ourselves to envision the future when we're so stuck in the past?
There is no future until we ______________ (I'll let you fill in the rest).
Books that make you dumb: chart
January 26, 2008 9:22am
Good for a laugh, maybe... but seeing that "African American" literature makes you dumb is a sad sign indeed. I'm waiting for a chart on statistical research practices that make you dumb.
Artist throws herself at men.

Listen folks, this is Real Art. Those photos should be printed on 6x10 canvases, purchased from the artist for $125,000 a piece and hung in the Museum of Modern Art. Theorists should write long drawn out texts on this Art. Art students should have to read those texts and write more texts that justify why the theories justify this as great Art. If that isn't convincing enough, Lilly should be invited to give lectures at Art schools and if you're a lucky student, allow her to do her Art and jump on you. Then for sure you'll feel how great the Art is. If you still don't get it, you're professor could always assign you the task of going out and jumping on the opposite gender. Don't forget to bring along a video camera to record it, show it to the class and get credit for it. Now, isn't Art fun?

When I was a kid I wanted to save the planet as well. Then I learned about the great forces that resist progressive change at all costs (conservative governments, police and military forces, hedge fund managers, religions). Oh, what a wonderful world...
