New Brad Sucks CD: "Out of It"
September 11, 2008 3:06am
Been listening to this since last weekend; I'd already heard all the tracks in various demo forms, but some of the new mixes are huge improvements over what were already excellent songs.
I'm already looking forward to his next album.

If you get the CD, you can rip the tracks at whatever bitrate you want. It's also got the tracks on it as (I think) 256kbps MP3s.
Review: Grocery store personal beeper thingy

We used to use those things all the time in the Sainsburys up the road from our house in Belfast, until we moved. I have to say, I kind of miss them - especially when we're stuck behind really slow people in the queue.
Although occasionally Sainsbury would call you for a "rescan", where you'd have to unpack and repack everything to make sure you weren't trying to steal anything.

2007 New Yorker cartoon similar to 1984 Far Side cartoon

It's actually quite likely that this is just a case of someone else coming up with the same idea.
In one of the forewords in The Complete Far Side collection, Larson himself admits that he drew one particular cartoon on two separate occasions, not remembering having drawn it before, although he doesn't mention which one and I've not been through both books in their entirety yet to find it myself.
New Blade Runner: OMG Deckard is a [REDACTED]

@Angstrom (#22):
Is Deckard a skin-job in Do Androids Dream? I always knew that he was in the movie, but I wasn't sure if that had tainted my perception of the book (I read it after I'd seen Blade Runner).
It seemed a lot more ambiguous in PKD's novel; there wasn't the blatant UNICORN! moment, although there was something about the frog/toad Deckard finds at the end that's always made me think he was an andy.
It's been a while since I read it, though...
USC Team Creates 360° Holographic Display with Mirrors, Perhaps Smoke

I wonder how well it would scale up? I mean, it's really cool at that size, but not all that useful for displaying information to more than a handful of people at a time.
Basically, when will will I get a full-size version to put in the middle of my living room?

Aww, someone else already pointed out PLANETES.
I'm still going to post a link to the complete series on Amazon though, because it's just that good:
