See? We can be very technologically cultured here in Boston. Hey! Wait... what's that!? Blinking LEDs!?!? Holy mother of Zeus!!
London's Spitalfields market: shoot the architecture, we take away your camera

Oooh. Snap! Cory, I caught that crack about Bostonians and you're walking on thin ice there! Except for, of course, the fact that you're totally right and Menino and the ham-heads who generally make up the authorities here are a bunch of numbskulls. Blinking LEDs at Logan are apparently a threat and they are still proceeding with charges against the MIT student who was wearing DIY electronic jewelry. Some years back towards 9/11 there were security people hassling folks about taking photos at the John Hancock building... there's always going to be some petty tyrant Rent-A-Cop lurking in the shadows in just about any ambiguous situation.
TSA: X-ray of MacBook Air may be "sensitive security information"

My guess is that they are worried that some terrorist would make a bomb that mimicked the internals of an AirBook... which is patently absurd IMHO.

I remember back in the early 90s I had a camcorder with a (for back then) oddly-shaped form factor and a mini tripod all bundled up in a camera bag. As it was going through the old-school x-ray scanner at Logan I was standing right there the operator watching with curiosity what it would look like.
When my camera came by on the screen we both looked at it and looked at each other and I said, "that sure does look like a ray gun, doesn't it?"
Because it did. Like some big ol' Marvin the Martian death-ray blaster. He just chuckled and let me take my camera bag and go on my way.

Heh. I was resisting the urge to do this myself late last night. There's something strangely appealing about Balloon Panzer!

Just know I support TED and everything about it %100. Honestly, Mark, my name IS Ted. So, aside from the fact that seeing TED in five or more posts in a row, which is just a blog clutter issue, it's like being at cocktail party and you keep hearing YOUR name spoken amidst the "cantelope-watermelon" general background murmur. Hehe. And now you have me actually paying more attention. Damn you, Mark! ;)

I concur with poster #1. But it is Mark's blog and Mark likes him some TED so I suppose we are just going to have to suffer through. But what I've been trying to figure out is even why is it called TED anyways? Perhaps a little clarification and a pinch of consolidation is in order here.

Gotta love these stodgy old fogeys attempting to wrap their tiny blinkered minds around these concepts. Because you know where there's file-sharing there might be some crack. It's like watching my elderly father trying to set the clock on his VCR... which, for the record, although he worked on technical documentation for nuclear missiles, he can't do. Scary eh?
