Time lapse of Simi Valley fires from 2005

June 12, 2008 12:02pm

On the original post, the creator chimed in about how he made this. I was kinda wondering if this is how it was done since the image quality is very high and the transitions are extremely smooth.

"This timelapse was shot using 2 Dslr's and one HDV cam. The beauty part is the higher resolution cameras allow me to build 'nested composites'. Since they originally shoot at 3456x2304. This is how I was able to achieve some of the pans & zooms without motion control and maintain the original quality in Hi-def. Now if I could only find a site that would stream that kind of bandwidth. :)"

Very cool and very nice job!

The Lawn Mower Cursor is there because normally, the www.watching-grass-grow.com website is ... Watching ... Grass ... Grow.
Note the button to switch webcams and keep an eye on my front lawn.

However, given that the Birdcam is just a wheeee bit more exciting and the primary focus, I just toggled the lawn mower cursor off - don't want people to think I'm going to run over the bird nest.

Glad you enjoy the birds ... they ARE darling in real life and my kids are enthralled by 'em.

Two-Hulk Halloween

VintageCaveman: Two Hulks barely fit on my balcony ... so not sure where I would put a third. But yea, this is the warmup for Christmas and three Hulk's would be SMASHING! ;-)

Steamboat/Jennifer: Thanks for your kind words and donation to help find a cure for Celiac Disease.

MDHatter: Nope, not me - that was Carson Williams from Ohio who did the awesome job of synchronizing lights to music.

Zan: Good memory - yes, the code is written in Perl
100% simulation/hoax from 2002-2004.
%100 real from 2005 on - technology improved!
Ditto the $18,000 raised so far for Celiac Research.

Accounts of trying to gets bats out of house

October 3, 2007 11:51am

DaveX: I had checked the attic several times and had not seen a colony up there. However, the meshing over one of the attic vents was "open" ... so I suspect the method of entry was through there to the attic ... and then through the crawl space entrance. I took care of the later as described here:
http://www.komar.org/faq/hunting_bats/2006_07_27_bat-fan/
and since then, have not had any "visitors"

Also, a few months ago I added additional meshing to the attic vents ... and in the process, did a thorough sweep of the attic (not easy, since blown insulation). I did find one dead bat.

PA: Good idea on the sheets. However, if you have high ceilings, that doesn't work well as they just swoop over the top of 'em. As noted on the main page, I used window screens as my "SHIELDS UP!" - these have the advantage of being able to see through 'em

SteveM/Tovi: Good link/story!

BTW, bats are good - they eat bugs. But especially as a father of two kids, I really don't want 'em in the house.
