Dumbest salvo yet in the war on terror, courtesy of the London police

Actually, that kind of campaign nothing new at all. You can almost call it ancient.

This campaign from 2001 is very similar, just scroll to the bottom:

'Mr Fry added: "Terrorists need somewhere to live, somewhere to store their equipment, and they need vehicles to move around in.

"If you sell cars or let property and you have noticed something suspicious please contact us."'

Profile of Hans Monderman, radical traffic engineer

Sure, a person may perceive that there is a bridge up ahead, until they're tired and one or two children are screaming in the back seat and then they're surprised by it.

And what difference does a warning sign make then? I doubt very much, because that's something that person also needs to see, process and then react to. Not that much difference to actually seeing a bridge ahead and reacting to that.

Orange UK 3G modems block Boing Boing

Vodafone UK Mobile Broadband also blocks Flickr (well, I guess you can find, you know, pictures, on it...) and probably pretty much all alcohol related sites (I know they at least block whisky distilleries, so probably others as well).

Obviously you can get it unlocked if you prove that you're over 18, but that's another hassle with calling them and all that. I wasn't told about this when I bought the card, why isn't this sorted at the point of purchase?

If you want to take a peak at the plans, here's the page on the Bild website. Use the back and forward buttons to move through the gallery on the right.

Germany bans all music and video copying, including personal use -- UPDATED

September 21, 2007 1:36pm

Should you get really bored and want to brush up your German here's a huge list of links at Heise (one of the biggest IT News sites in Germany) on the topic:

http://www.heise.de/ct/hintergrund/meldung/68064

There's a lot of discussion and information available here. They also have an English site, but there doesn't seem to be much (if anything) about the copyright reforms.

The law covering most of what is mentioned above is actually in place since 2003 when "stage 1" was approved. The part approved today is "stage 2" of reforms to the "Urheberrecht" (that's German for Copyright Law) to "adapt it to the digital age".

Another stage is yet to come.
