From Atari Joyboard to Wii Fit: 25 years of "exergaming"

I actually worked on the port of Speed Racer for the Life Fitness bike which was one of the craziest jobs I've ever done (lots of 80 hour work weeks). The highlight was being at work on a Sunday afternoon trying to write 65816 assembly code while Jackie Chan was running a hovercraft down the street while filming Rumble in the Bronx. (I forgive him now for stealing my parking spot).
Anyway, Speed Racer was actually pretty fun to play and translated into a great game (although the "Caloric Scoring" that Life Fitness wanted us to do was pretty ridiculous). Originally I think LF was thinking they could sell these units to gyms who could potentially afford the lofty price tag. This of course went over about as well as casinos buying fancy expensive video slot machines. If you can generate the same revenue for less money, why wouldn't you do that?

Since when is West Elm considered expensive? Check out Design Within Reach (www.dwr.com) if you want to see ridiculous prices for modern furniture. West Elm seems to be priced somewhere in the middle between IKEA and Room & Board, although that's a little unfair since Room & Board doesn't flat pack their furniture.
