@ #5, they're made with a "custom" (as you say :p) code in Processing, and last time i checked, they weren't rendered in real time.
The magnetosphere iTunes plugin, though, is a re-implementation of the Processing code in C++ (if I remember well), and runs in real-time.

"Vimeo user Flight404" sounds a bit like.. i don't know... "Flickr user gruntzooki". Robert Hodgin is kind of *well known* in the field of generative/code art, and has been active for years ;)
