It's pretty cool, in the "find the references" puzzle illustration sort of way.
However the big question is - #3 and #16 - you have to ask spousal permission to buy a $20 print?

Oldest accurate "road map" of Britain
February 1, 2008 12:40pm
I find old maps fascinating, because they show the state and limitations of human understanding about the world around them at that time (see: "Here be dragons" and blank white spaces in the center of Africa)...
For instance, I have a reproduction of an 1864 Army map of the U.S Southwest on my office wall - the Grand Canyon is not labeled or delineated, and the Colorado River only an indistinct dotted line through the region. And that map is "only" 144 years old.
And old maps are beautiful - many are hand-drawn one-offs or copies on the durable media of the time, using garish pigments and flourishes.

Pepe Moreno's "Rebel," originally published in Heavy Metal in 1986, showed a partially-demolished tower after a civil war. The heroes of the story took down the remaining tower (used as a headquarters for the neo-fascist state and their cronies) by blowing up an explosives-laden van in the subway tunnels under the remaining tower, ala the 1993 WTC bombing:

"Auto Suck" Road Head Simulator Reviewed (Verdict: "AAA")

"...We got a zillion little gadgets to keep your mind off the fact that its getting too big too fast. Why there's even the Auto Suck which is designed to take care of your anxiety over it getting too big too fast. You know, the Auto Suck, the little gadget you plug into your car lighter and stick on your dick so that while you're racing from one doodad to another you can shoot your cookies over all the pretty girls you don't have time to stop and fuck. And believe me, gizmo broadcasting knows how obsessed you are with sex, because they've shot a lot of hot neon pussy through your tubes, trying to get you to buy every doodad under the sun...so they have created the Auto Suck especially for you...but I digress..."

Strange squid with human-like "teeth"
October 26, 2007 11:39am
Ha - terrifying inch-long monsters of the deep...
note from the g/f, who studied squids in a previous lifetime:
"I think that's an illusion. Squid have sharp beaks, and i think that the 'teeth' are really soft tissue (like suckers or something) that are striped and make it look like a nice smile."

More US Warcraft players than farmers
October 23, 2007 4:56pm
@AdventureBum - true - rereading the OP reveals that the point is not so much some particular industry/lifestyle/activity group, but what constitutes a Real American (tm) ... to be pandered to be politicos or quizzed by lazy journalists...
Anyway, I recall reading somewhere that Oregon was the most 'average' state in that it matched average US demographics, or income, or something (I can't find the reference and could be mistaken).
If so, what we're looking for is a WoW-playing Oregon farmer to interview.

More US Warcraft players than farmers
October 23, 2007 2:12pm
You're missing the point of the OP - Why does the guvmint pander to a bloc of a 'few' farmers vs. another random group?
Because the value of the US' ag products is over $200 billion, contributes about $100 billion to the economy, and food is one of the few products we still export.
I doubt the WoW players do that.
