Fun Flickr pool: "Name that Film"

March 20, 2008 11:50pm

Man On Pink Corner: Umm... it's cool if you like looking at photos... That's pretty much the whole deal.

On my page, I can choose from various sizes to set my preview images, but pools for some reason all seem to be in small form. I don't know if that's how they have to be, or if the people who make photo pools just like that, since not everybody who likes looking at photos has a great internet connection.

And considering that the average picture has options to view it in thumbnail, small, medium, large, or original size, I think that's a pretty good option compared to other photo sharing sites.

Plus, it's one of the best collections of quality (and non-quality) amateur photography on the net. Mostly because of its size, yes, but it still has an amazing amount of diversity in the types of pictures available there.

So I'm sorry if the two available options for one particular part of the site bother you, but the rest of the site does have some really interesting photography. Maybe you just need rest. Take a nap and check it out tomorrow.

Compfight: powerful search-tool for Flickr images

Picture Sandbox isn't working for me at the moment (I'm using Firefox, if that makes any difference). But Compfight works like a charm.

Man builds giant chicken manure catapult to battle vandals

@22: That was the funniest thing I read all day.

Father and son sport forehead tattoos

March 19, 2008 2:32pm

@48: It can also mean a brother or a loved one has died. Larry Hughes has one in memory of his (younger?) brother, and I'm pretty sure he never killed anyone.

I agree with #29, that is the most intriguing soundtrack that they picked.

Most excellent Spitzer-related media gaffe: CNN

March 13, 2008 1:43pm

@5: You are seeing what you want to see. The fact that those 3 stories are on the same page means as much as the fact that Djokovic winning the Australian Open is on that page too.

The U.S. satellite is headed to Earth! Christian Brando died! A woman's life was transformed after dropping 110 pounds! Nice race-baiting CNN!\

Hate CNN all you want, but at least they never put links to The O'Reilly Factor on their front page.

And by the way, would "having it out for Spitzer" be anything like what was done to Bill Clinton? Oh, and he DIDN'T GIVE MONEY TO AN ILLEGAL BUSINESS WHILE IN CHARGE OF THE POLICE FORCE! It doesn't matter what vendetta people had against him, he did this to himself, and he deserves to be run out of town.

Steampunk animal skull sculptures

March 8, 2008 10:26pm

Maybe I'm off, because admittedly I don't see a whole lot of steampunk items, but I don't know how this fits. It was said to be made to look pretty on the wall, which it certainly accomplishes. But isn't the steampunk idea that it's stuff from an alternate victorian era reality were the stuff of today is made with what they had back then? Well I'm pretty sure that in any time period you go to, skulls are skulls. That's pretty much it. Unless this is supposed to be the metal-worked skull of robotic cattle-imitating machines. But I'm not sure why those would have been built.

Or maybe I've missed the point. I feel as if I have.

Map of choose your own adventure book

March 7, 2008 10:27pm

I always thought this would be handy as a kid, if only to check off the paths I'd already taken, to make sure I read all the versions of the story. But then I realized I was lazy.

@6: Obviously not, I'm reminiscing about Choose Your Own Adventure on Boing Boing at 1:30 in the morning.

Record companies don't share money extorted from file-sharing fans with artists

February 29, 2008 1:23am

I sort of figured this was what happened, but I'm glad the artists are finally taking action. Maybe if the record labels don't stand to make much from these lawsuits, they'll stop being so cavalier about filing them.

French people eat until they're full, Americans eat until the food's gone

February 22, 2008 11:57pm

I've had similar experiences as 1 and 2, but in both cases that started making me take smaller portions. That way it's easier to clean my plate (1) and my plate count is higher, seeming like I ate more than I did (2). So I sort of worked it to help me, but I could see it being a guilt that would stick with you.

I wasn't until just now, but since you mention it, yes.
