July 4, 2008 9:56am
AT&T billing site makes jokes about company's participation in warrantless wiretapping?
June 28, 2008 1:27am
Those who say we shouldn't have anything to hide unless we're up to no good are hiding the fact that THEY are up to no good.
Linda Stone on time management
June 12, 2008 4:50am
I would never have the time to write such lists.
Google News from a better world
June 8, 2008 8:23am
The road to hell is paved with good intentions such as "feeding the word" which leads to popuation rises and worse famines. These good news examples concern the "international community" meddling and dictating how the world should be run. This "good news" is naive and the attitude is destructive. What would really be good news is an end to globalization.
Restaurant lays off waitress who shaved head for cancer charity
June 6, 2008 3:01am
One reassuring thing about bald waitresses and waiters is that they won't drop any hairs into your food. Everyone in the kitchen should be bald too as a rule.
Crocodile scarring ritual on video
June 4, 2008 12:43pm
What savages. That's as bad as having lots of piercings.
Screengrab from donut sleeper cell training video surfaces
June 1, 2008 6:19am
It's ridiculous. She's a woman. Al Qaeda doesn't approve of women. It was in the news a few days ago.
Johnny Bunko -- optimistic and iconoclastic career guide in manga form
May 31, 2008 1:41am
One thing many people seek from a job/career is meaning - and it is hard to find. This book sounds as though it would be very helpful.
Ghost Goblets -- hollow goblet liners inside tumblers
May 29, 2008 12:40pm
Here's an idea for stylish women who don't want to get wet or muddy feet - transparent wellingtons with colourful stilettos inside them!
Adult balloon-twisters and gospel balloon-twisters battle
May 27, 2008 3:49pm
I thought gays would rather use condoms.
Hitler plans Burning Man
May 21, 2008 9:40am
It's so funny isn't it - to see Hitler being a total degenerate! Ha! Doesn't he belong in a camp somewhere?!
George Clooney in Men Who Stare At Goats movie
May 18, 2008 6:48am
Is this a Hollywood movie? It doesn't sound like the kind of subject matter Hollywood would touch.
Einstein: Religion is "childish," "primitive"
May 14, 2008 2:04am
Einstein was fanatically Jewish, but didn't see this identity as necessarily religious. There are millions of secular Jews.
Drug war horror stories to boil your blood
May 13, 2008 2:48am
People should put whatever they want into their bodies if a)they are informed about the risks and
b)their doing so neither endangers others nor causes costs others have to pay for. And the trouble is that drugs do cost society in terms of health care, care of damaged children of addicts, dangerous driving and other actions that hurt innocent people.
It wouldn't matter if the addicts simply killed themselves.
Incidentally, the war in Afghanistan resulted in a huge increase in heroin for the west. And just google: CIA is the biggest drug dealer. The government is being duplicitous.
LED hula hoops... you know, for kids
May 11, 2008 9:59am
Hula hoops are great excercise. I use one almost every day. I wish I had one of these hoops.
Amnesty UK's videos on China's human rights record and the Olympics
May 5, 2008 2:26pm
The idea of a bunch of Buddhists with their peaceful relgion fighting off the Chinese, who now even outnumber them in Tibet and getting independence is utterly bizarre. So should America come in there saying: we'll sort those Commies out for you!
The sensible conclusion is that Tibet stays in China and the Tibetans just face the fact they can't beat them so they may as well join them. The Tibetans are racially mixed anyway (regardless of what Nazis said they once were) so it's not like they were being genocided by being surrounded by Chinese.
How can the Tibetans seriously get independence unless China gives it to them? China would see such an act as a serious "loss of face".
Amnesty UK's videos on China's human rights record and the Olympics
May 5, 2008 4:56am
The Chinese are scary at times with their lack of compassion for animals and people. (Not all of them of course).
But I don't trust the motives for all the propaganda against China right now. The US is warmongering. They don't like this rival superpower. I even question the political neutrality of Amnesty International, even though they do make what could be token criticisms of US treatment of Iraqis.
HOWTO make a coatrack out of a baby doll
May 4, 2008 12:21pm
Be careful not to choose a doll of a different colour, or you could be in trouble. I found out the hard way.
Women report incubus attacks
May 2, 2008 12:02pm
What are these "sensors" the ghost puts on their bodies? Why do they allow it to happen? The story is very short on detail.
Mudpuppy Magnet Monsters in a tin
April 28, 2008 12:18am
They look like a lot of fun. I might get them for my kids, only I have visions of the pieces getting scattered and lost after a couple of days! Anything that stops kids watching TV is a good thing.
Airstrip in a box: 1938
April 24, 2008 6:05am
Much less harmful to the environment that the airports we have today! In the UK, the extension of Standstead airport completely cancelled out the benefits of the nation converting to eco light bulbs.
Shoes are bad for your feet? Vindicating the barefoot set
April 24, 2008 5:53am
It's very important to remain active to avoid all kinds of health problems so we need to think about protecting our feet. Those Vibram Fivefingers shoes unfortunately look rather embarassing, but wearing thin-souled rubber pumps may do the same job. Best to go bare foot when practical and avoid pointed toes and high heels that build up problems.
Middlesbrough cops, goons and clerks grab and detain photographer for shooting on a public street
April 22, 2008 8:22am
But when you photograph people you are stealing their souls!
Chopping down trees to make books is good for the environment, provided you then line your walls with bookcases
April 20, 2008 9:12am
Having books on the walls means not having to repaint or redo the wall paper too!
Frame Hanger: a piece of art you hang coats on
April 19, 2008 12:55am
It looks so much nicer than having some hooks on the wall to hang stuff on, as I had until the weight got too much and they fell out.
60% of world's paintings come from one village in China
April 19, 2008 12:52am
It would be quite soul destroying to have to paint repeated copies of the same masterpiece in a production line. It's a shame they can't just paint what they are inspired to paint.
China in depth, National Geographic special
April 16, 2008 3:13am
It is nice to read something about China these days that isn't complaining about their espionage on the west, their brutality in Tibet, their toxic exports and so on. Which all sound like American attempts to justify aggression.
While the increase in consumerism is a problem for the whole world, since resources are limited, it is great to hear that there is an increasing awareness of environmental responsibilities in China. Things are changing rapidly there, and hopefully for the better.
Controlling SecondLife with a 3D camera
April 15, 2008 9:11am
There aren't enough hours in the day to think of having a "second life" online! It suggests that people are unhappy with the realities of their life and would rather escape to a fantasy than try to improve things. That is scary.

The government is so obsessively paranoid about us all - but most people seem to think this should make us feel snuggly and secure. What is the government hiding that makes them fear us though?
