@ #2 - that was my thought too. What happens when the kid turns 30 and still can't buy booze?

Young adult sections in bookstore -- a parallel universe of little-regarded awesomeness

I started reading Tamora Pierce's books when I was in middle school... 12 years later and I still wait for each new book. It's so refreshing to find fantasy/history with female protagonists that aren't just bad romance heroines.

@ willie mcbride - I think there's a lot more subversive YA literature now, a lot more alternative lifestyles represented and more complex themes. You just have to find the authors who don't think kids are morons.

Gaiman on fair use

@ Agent_86 - I rarely post here either (it's a particularly slow day at work and I find the case amusing) but here is the filing from WB (which is naturally debateable). The chart on page 12 is where I believe the 90% claim is coming from. http://docs.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/new-york/nysdce/1:2007cv09667/315790/83/

Gaiman on fair use

Pduggie - I believe that the actual text isn't available for the public - the 90% estimate is from Rowling & her lawyers. However there have been conflicting reports from Vander Ark himself over whether any of the analysis present in the online version will be in the book. Last I heard, he said he would not be using articles from the site(presumably because then he would have to pay the people who wrote them).

Hysterically, the most calm, coherent reports on the subject I've seen have been on Fandom_Wank.

"This is merely great smalltalk knowledge ala 'Did you know...' 'No shit!'"

What's wrong with that? That's the whole reason I learn things.

High heels: tottery killers (infographic)

I'm 4'10". I don't want to be taller because it's "beautiful". I want to be taller because I get sick of being treated like a 12 year old.

Resigning from Napster takes more than 30 minutes

Hey - it only took me about 15 minutes to cancel a Verizon account I wanted to put on hold while I moved.

Best decision I never made.
