Happy Mutant Profile
Stacyj
Bio: Cheerfully nerdy type who gets especially excited over all things insect-, cartoon-, & linguistics-related (a post about the sociolinguistic identity practices of cartoon insects would be HEAVENLY to me)...Also inordinately fond of ellipses=P

Trader Joe's Cashew #4, a work of great fine art
May 1, 2008 5:45pm
Heehee, between his description and his answers to bidders' questions, this sounds like a guy with a truly fun sense of humor, I hope he -does- make a fair bit of dough through this. Looks like the bidding's up to a whopping $8.50 at the time I write this - here's hoping he scores an even ten!
Ben Stein: "science leads you to killing people"
May 1, 2008 5:40pm
Not to be ugly, but before this whole "Expelled" thing came about I'd had no idea what an absolute moron Ben Stein was ... so I guess that's one useful thing this movie has achieved - maybe I'm not the only one to have been disabused of the notion that Ben Stein was a reasonably sharp guy thanks to this movie ...
Artist themes for Google
April 30, 2008 11:34am
Aww, I really like the Google themes - I'm currently using a 'springtime' one but had been using the Lollypop Land one for a long time, it's really fun =) I always wanted to see -more- changes, too; I hope you do another one sometime.
My only kvetch about Google themes is that you can't search the non-artist ones by creator (or if you can, I haven't figured out how?) - that's kind of a bummer when you find something from someone you like and want to see what else they've done ...
Japan is almost out of butter
April 23, 2008 9:48pm
Surely there's some aspiring Dr. Seuss protege out there ready to take inspiration from this to write The Butter Battle Book, Part II ...
Quick, everyone load up their Kick-A-Poo Kids!
11 students suspended for banana prank
April 23, 2008 9:44pm
"Harmless and delightful" are indeed the right words for such a prank ... as one of those sad, sad folks who, in high school, lived in FAR too much fear of terrible words like "Suspension" and "B+" I hope somebody points out to those kids that the fun they had was worth it, and that the memory will no doubt last far longer than any effects of some pitiful and unnecessary suspension. We NEED more banana pranksters in this country, by god!
Details interview with John Waters
April 23, 2008 4:35pm
Alvin and the Chipmunks FanFiction. 13 stories. From the "Rated M" category. Now, I'd be a total hypocrite if I claimed I've never enjoyed a nice slash fanfic but - ehh, well ... if you have any gods, NOW would be the time to pray to them, BEFORE clicking that link ...
How Much is Inside? -- thread count
April 22, 2008 7:44pm
"Wait!" Mike yelled. "Don't cut up your $40 pillowcases!"
"Then how will I pull apart the threads and count them?" I replied.
I ... LOVE that there are people like this out there in the world, geeking their marvelously geeky way through life, not only taking the time to COUNT the number of threads in their bedclothes but actually posting it for the benefit of all mankind - huzzah for the internets!
Disneyland bans pictures in its parking lots
April 22, 2008 7:11am
Banning photography in a parking lot isn't ludicrous enough to merit a boing boinging? What? Surely there's some sarcasm going on here that my sad American mind just isn't capable of detecting, yes? Please tell me that there's some sarcasm going on here that my sad American mind just isn't capable of detecting ...
Jessica Rabbit "untooned"
April 21, 2008 8:47am
Ugh, very very disturbing, it just looks soulless and creepy to me as compared to the original ... makes me once again very much miss the days when studios were putting out actual 2-D animated features rather than all of those CGI offerings ...
(Yeah, yeah, I know - hey you damn kids, get off my lawn!)
Secret history of Infocom's abortive sequel to The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy text adventure, Milliways
April 18, 2008 9:27am
Aww, I loved all those old Infocom offerings, the H2G2 one was such fun. Although now in my dotage I find that the various games have become completely jumbled up in my head, to the extent that I largely just remember one very extended undertaking in which I wandered around in my bathrobe (after taking my buffered analgesics, of course) in this weird cave system under this white house where I ended up after the Soviets nuked London, but no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't save poor little Floyd from sacrificing himself for me. Also, there were platypi.
Good times, good times ...
Clothing designed to fight back against intentionally uncomfortable furniture
April 17, 2008 5:13pm
My goodness, I don't quite get why everyone feels so cranky over this, how is it hurting anybody? Seems kind of goofy and silly to me, and goofy and silly is -always- good. It's not like the creator expects us all to rush out and -buy- them (personally I'd be happier with a nice pillow/hat for leaning against walls during the casual lunch-hour snooze) ...
Cupcake waltz
April 15, 2008 1:08am
That ... makes me ridiculously happy, how joyful to imagine someone spending an entire weekend making his cupcakes dance simply because - well, they came out burnt, what else was he supposed do with them?
What a fun mind =)
Knowing the risk of fatality, to the finest nicety
April 13, 2008 11:33am
I certainly wouldn't disagree with that, Chgoliz, but OTOH there are a -lot- of traumatic experiences that could throw a person into a state of deep, deep mental chaos and render them less capable of driving safely - it just seems odd to me that they've singled this one out when all the other listed factors seem so much broader ... nevertheless, a quick search turns up 28 reports in 2006 alone in which it was indicated as a factor, so I suppose there must be -some- reason for singling it out ...
Knowing the risk of fatality, to the finest nicety
April 13, 2008 9:33am
Some of the 'Person Related Factors' are really puzzling - sure, things like "inattentive" or "interfering with driver" make sense, and I -guess- I can even see why they'd need "blind" as an item ... but "mother of dead fetus"?
?
I'm not sure what intrigues me more, that one (so many questions!), or "Phantom Vehicle" ...
Bowl with spoon-rest
April 12, 2008 8:23am
"Useless for feeding an adult sized mouth"? I've -always- preferred a teaspoon and I'm, um, fairly sure my mouth is "adult-sized". I don't really need to eat my entire bowl in three spoonfuls.
Personally I think these are rather neat - I certainly wouldn't pay the $21 the site is asking for just one bowl and spoon, but as someone whose spoon handle sometimes -does- slip annoyingly into her bowl I can see where these could be kinda handy ...
Happy 107th birthday to my grandmother!
April 11, 2008 6:04pm
Aww, what a worthy subject of a post! I love that picture, I hope she's still as happy today as she looks like she was in that picture =)
Hope her birthday is/was a great one!
Bulletproof "anti-terrorist" bed with air-supply, toilet
March 28, 2008 7:16am
Holy cow, did anybody notice how much they intend to CHARGE for this absurdity?? From their page on the "Quantum Lite Sleeper" (which would "only" be 1/2 - 1/8th the price): The average cost of the Quantum Sleeper is estimated at about $160,000.00 ...
Sometimes the phrase "more money than brains" just doesn't even begin to cover it ...
Carny scams of 1930 (pretty much the same scams of today, but with fedoras)
March 26, 2008 9:51am
Hilarious, I was just coming here to remark on that very thing and here it turns out that ALL of the comments thus far are about that first sentence on page 3. I've heard older relations using that term before but I -never- would've expected to see it so matter-of-factly in print, even in something from the 1930s ... yeesh ...
Skeptic giggles on Indian national TV as mystic totally fails to curse him to death
March 25, 2008 5:16am
Of course, when -ever- this guy does actually die now, be it tomorrow or forty years from now, I would imagine Pandit Surinder Sharma will claim victory - some of them thar death spells just take a little while to set in, don't you know ...
Jack LaLanne on the secret to happiness
March 21, 2008 4:43pm
Funny, I woke up to that Jack LaLanne/juicer infomercial this morning (having forgotten to turn off the TV last night) - I love that he ends that thing with a little song just like in the old days, so cheestastic!
Abominable Snow Rabbit cartoon
February 25, 2008 4:30pm
So very much fun! I remember the first time I realized that "George" was a reference to Of Mice and Men; suddenly I felt so -literate- thanks to my cartoon-watching ways =)
Site helps you find rotten neighbors
February 22, 2008 6:51pm
This is sadly late, but I LOVE the idea of "niceneighbor.com" as suggested by #15 (Philipb) ... I'd be far more interested in seeing that =)
You Suck at Photoshop #7
February 22, 2008 6:41pm
Ohhh, lord, the pathos just gets more and more intense every time! I had been feeling sort of 'meh' about the whole thing when there were just one or two episodes out there, but now that there's a whole story going on I just can't get enough ... darn it, now I want to see Donny and Sandy get together - I bet -she- would understand 'that thing that happens to you after you eat Thai food' ...
XKCD comic on Internet arguments
February 20, 2008 4:51am
Pfft, if someone on the internet disagrees with you (i.e., "is wrong"), then clearly they must be a troll ... report them at once to the mods and then write a long ranty post on your mySpace blog decrying the horrible immaturity and lack of manners among folks on the internets today (bonus points if you can manage to work in a reference to that Penny Arcade 'Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory' comic) ...
10 Star Wars toys that unintentionally look like other celebrities
February 5, 2008 9:03pm
Okay, having read the article I must admit I'm now far more eager to buy the '12-inch Han Solo' than I have any business being ... but come on! Zach Braff!
RU Sirius on pranksters and tricksters
January 28, 2008 4:30pm
That interview excerpt is tempting, and the course description on the page you linked to is even -more- intriguing (a course where you get to look at figures that encourage you to 'question reality,' AND to plan pranks?? I think the only course that might beat that would be one that involved weekly puppy cuddling and beer drinking assignments). I read Trickster Makes The World a few years back and found it really intriguing - it was well worth the read, and the opportunity to discuss/examine it in an academic setting sounds amazing. Aargh, if I had the $135 to spare I would sign up in a heartbeat!
Well, I hope it turns out to be a huge hit (and I hope it gets offered again at some point! =)
Mushrooms in Helsinki
January 24, 2008 6:14am
You know, at first (very quick, and caffeine-deprived) glance I thought I was looking at a great big brood of insects ... there just may be some correlation between that and the fact that I am an awful, awful cook.
Nevertheless, very neat photo!
1938 cartoon: Katnip Kollege
January 17, 2008 1:46pm
Wow, that actually was pretty good quality for a YouTube video, awesome. I really liked how -fluid- the animation was, too - it was just plain -nice- to look at.
Not to mention - I just love that you guys post a relatively healthy dose of cartoon/animation-based entries (many of which aren't even John K-focused, wonder of wonders! ;) They are much-appreciated - please keep 'em up! =)
Rules of Thumb website
January 9, 2008 8:13am
Very neat idea for a site, although I do wish there were a way to read what you want (from the 'Main Rules Collecion') in a single-column format rather than having it share the screen with that other 'New Rules Pending' column. The rules are brief enough that it doesn't get -too- annoying or require too much scrolling, but it still looks a little more cluttered than is really necessary, to me.
Regardless, though, it's a cool site and my day has just been made by discovering the following tidbit of information: "There are approximately 250 mice to the gallon."
If THAT won't come in handy I don't know what will!
Comments not working
December 4, 2007 3:19pm
Best urinal picture ever. And huzzah, Mark, for not peeing on the cockroach! How many karma points -does- one get for that?
Henry Petroski on the history of the toothpick
October 30, 2007 4:53pm
Wow, what a -neat- idea for a book, I'm most definitely adding it to my Xmas list. I -love- it when someone takes something seemingly mundane and uninteresting and shows us why even -it- has something fascinating to tell us. Everything is secretly amazing! You just have to look hard enough into it.
I love that =)
Decapitated doll head pencil sharpener
October 30, 2007 4:26pm
Darn it, ever since I saw that pencil sharpener via a Metafilter post a little while back it's been taunting me with is unavailability ... oh how I wish they'd re-issue the blasted thing! Mark, if you DO end up making something similar for your daughter, I most highly hope you'd publish the how-to ... pretty please =)
Man placed on sex offenders register for sex with bike
October 29, 2007 3:37pm
The guy got caught in a nude with a bicycle? Should've just explained that he was a participant in the Tour de'pantsed ...
Satellite dish stickers beautify your dish
October 29, 2007 11:51am
Gotta agree on the "tacky" judgment - I realize it's none of my business what someone else wants to put on their stuff, and lordy I certainly couldn't pass muster as a "nontacky" person myself, but something about those stickers just makes me wince. It doesn't seem like something that would make a positive addition to one's decor, IMO.
(Though it occurs to me that if they'd had, I dunno, stickers that could make your dish look like a Death Star I'd be all over that ... I'm not proud.)
Funny gift boxes from The Onion
October 26, 2007 6:43pm
How very much fun! Although looking at their entire collection I must sadly admit that if I got that "Make Your Own Umbrella" box, I'd be woefully disappointed if that -wasn't- what was inside ...
Spiny anteater reveals bizarre penis -- video
October 26, 2007 2:23pm
I'm sitting at home on a Friday night, watching anteater porn ... yeah. Somehow the term, "new all-time low" just doesn't even begin to cut it this time.
Thanks, BoingBoing! ;)
Flyer for an awesome dog
October 24, 2007 11:56am
Ripoff or no, that made my day =) If anything deserves to be publicly proclaimed it's the awesomeness of one's dog! I love, too, that the picture so perfectly matches the text - that dog KNOWS he's m-f'ing awesome...
Is Colbert's "presidential campaign" breaking FEC laws?
October 19, 2007 9:54am
Oh no, I hope they wouldn't do that! Those of us in SC need every ray of sunshine we can get!
Chronicles of a Japanese funeral
October 15, 2007 3:42pm
What a weird coincidence, as I'm sitting here reading this I'm eating dinner with mismatched chopsticks. I had no idea it was taboo! Guess I'd better go find a matching pair ...
Rent-a-tank
October 8, 2007 7:30pm
Wow, I seriously cannot think of a more appealing use for a tank; I only wish they'd had such an operation in the US back when I was a corporate type (suddenly a group outing to Dave & Buster's seems so very ... mundane). Wonder how much extra they charge to let you roll that baby over certain coworkers's cars?
Tintin movie! Tintin movie! TINTIN MOVIE!
October 3, 2007 5:33am
Wow, that's such cool news, it's been a while since there's been a movie idea I was really tickled with. My one disappointment is the idea of it being done in "digital 3D;" not to be all luddite-like but is anybody else seriously missing more traditional animation styles? I always liked TinTin's art and would -love- to have seen a similar 2D style in the movie; doing it via CGI seems ... wrong somehow, like taking this unique comic and its distinct visual style and giving it the increasingly genericized Shrek/Madagascar/Ant Bully look ...
Eh, maybe I am a Luddite after all. I still miss hand-drawn (not that dadgum Flash-based stuff, by cracky), 2D animation, there's not nearly enough of it out there these days IMO. Nevertheless the idea of a TinTin movie makes my day!
Run DMC on Reading Rainbow (video)
October 2, 2007 9:28am
Aww, I -loved- Reading Rainbow, how marvelously weird that Run DMC had been on it. And speaking of interesting guests, what about the episode with Whorf on it? If only he'd had some furries to contest!
Terry Pratchett's "Making Money" -- economic comedy
September 29, 2007 10:40am
Actually no, I haven't read 'em all yet and in fact it's been the last several books that are still on my 'to read' list. I'm glad you pointed that out, Pilitus, that's pretty darned exciting to hear that the ones I still have to look forward to might even offer a bit more depth along with all of the other enjoyable qualities (oh boy, 'carrot stick books' instead of potato chip ones ... or perhaps 'chocolate covered carrot sticks' =)
Terry Pratchett's "Making Money" -- economic comedy
September 29, 2007 10:00am
Pratchett books are such 'potato chip books' for me, perhaps they're mental 'empty calories' but nevertheless they're so danged addictive it's impossible to stop after reading just one. Rincewind is by far my favorite character but Moist sounds rather fun, too - I'll have to give this one and Going Postal a try...
Micropolitan Museum of Microscopy
September 28, 2007 9:01pm
Wow, those are marvelous, I -never- would have guessed that that image on the right was a pine needle! And the rest of the images on the site itself are great, too - I thought the insect pages were particularly delightful (aww, wook at the cute widdle wasp face in the Insect Portrait Gallery!!)
Myth of psychotic cat artist busted
September 26, 2007 6:59pm
Wow. I remember seeing those pictures cited in psychology textbooks as an undergrad; kinda makes me more irked than ever at how blasted -expensive- those textbooks were =P Nevertheless I'm strangely glad to hear that those paintings aren't truly (or at least, necessarily) reflective of the artist's mental deterioration, it ALWAYS unsettled me deeply to "see into the descent" like that ...
Countdown to Microsoft's "J.Lo 3"
September 25, 2007 7:52am
Pfft, J.Lo 3 is the most over-hyped game since Geres of War (though I will admit that that gerbil move was a killer). For real fun give JLO Star Wars II a try!
Furries vs Klingons bowling tournament this Sat in Atlanta
September 25, 2007 7:06am
Heh, in the comments on the page linked here some of the furries are talking about making special fingerless gloves for the event; ya can't say they haven't thought this thing through! Um.
Ooh, and there's a poll there, too, where you can vote for the side you're rooting for - atm the furries are winning by a slight bit. What's a Klingon gotta do to get a little love??
Chicago's landmarks as papercraft postcards
September 21, 2007 1:22pm
Aww, you know you miss a town when looking at a picture of little paper models of it makes you feel all nostalgic-like. Those are very cool, I really like that they included some less "obvious" landmarks like the Corncobs right along with the Sears Tower and the Hancock Tower and what-not (though it does make me giggle to see that Picasso Status looming so hugely over so many of the other models, hee). And they've even got L tracks!! What fun!
There goes -my- weekend ...
Photos from Los Angeles County Fair
September 20, 2007 2:56pm
*lol* What a fun find, those two vacantly happy children drawn to either side of her makes the whole thing all the better. I think I've just found a new background image for my desktop =)
Kottke's gems from the NYT archives
September 20, 2007 7:46am
I love the early/mid 90s articles when the internet was still so new and arcane to the public at large - like this one, which discusses the growing "prestige" of those strange things called "email addresses" and how they'd gone from being seen as "arcane computer language" (why the heck does that "a" have a circle around it?? WHY??) to the mark of the "card-carrying member of the information age" ...
12-inch Lizard eats 7-inch plastic lizard
September 19, 2007 8:12pm
Sounds like a promising start to an exotic new Thanksgiving fad - who wants turducken when they -could- have plastizard?
LOLCTHULHU: Elder Gods meet LOLCats
September 19, 2007 11:16am
I must admit I'm 100% with you on this one, Norbizness. Not to be kvetchy but I have to think that by this point everyone in the online world who -wants- to see more LOLcat-style things, well, knows they exist and knows a quick google will yield as many wacky variants on the matter as their bucket-has'ing, cookie-eated, pokemons-showing souls could possibly desire. I know I'm grumbling but oy vey, to have seen new LOL things on both BoingBoing AND Neatorama today makes me twitch just a bit ...
Comic-geek fuel-tank door decals from Japan
September 18, 2007 8:15am
Heh, I quite liked a few of the others displayed on that page, the ones with relevant text on 'em ("Please insert gently") were a bit more clearly "fuel door decals" ... My favorite was the one for the fake fuel door, how fun and irritating that could be when lending a friend your car =)
Coffee table/magazine stand
September 18, 2007 2:55am
Is this the book version you were looking for? http://www.boingboing.net/2005/11/25/coffee-table-with-in.html
RIP, Robert Jordan
September 17, 2007 6:34am
Man, I had no idea he was even ill (and with such a rare disease at that); what a true shame he had to die so young, and not just because I rather liked the first book in his WoT series. Having said that, I saw someone on another site commenting that they'll now be drinking to George R. R. Martin's health far more frequently, and in a ghoulishly selfish way I must admit I'm tempted to do the same (if I don't find out what happens to Tyrion I'll plotz!)
Nevertheless, RIP Robert Jordan.
Hey, look, it's Boing Boing on Twitter!
September 17, 2007 6:30am
Ha, that's actually rather cool, I'm glad to hear that Twitter isn't tolerating cybersquatting. Good for them (and as for you guys, carry on with those slutaliciously frequent updating ways! I never realized how addicted I was until I started feeling deeply irked by the approach of the weekend and its concomitant lessening in the steady stream of BB posts =P
Man makes guillotine to kill himself
September 13, 2007 7:50pm
Wow, that gave me goosebumps, Maus, how queerly lovely (erm, in a good way)...
The weird/sad thing is that this wasn't the first guy to do this in recent years, googling 'guillotine suicide' turns up this fellow over in Northumberland, and I could have sworn I'd heard about another American who'd done something similar a few years back ... yeesh.
Giant web woven by a variety of spider families
September 13, 2007 8:29am
Man, I would -love- to see that (and wow, I had no idea that there were such things as pirate spidarrrrrs! The universe gets more delightful by the day!)
Mario level that plays itself
September 12, 2007 11:08am
Agh, that was marvelous! Delightful and irresistible in the same way that a skillfully contrived domino course is. I especially loved that they got Yoshi involved in that second stage ...
Artist will send 300 meter banana 50km above the earth
September 11, 2007 2:39pm
"Geostationary Banana" is my new favorite potential band name. Oh, if only I had musical talent!
Beautiful colored kaytdids
September 11, 2007 2:28pm
Man, I love those. What a -delicious- universe we live in, when even our insects can be so bizarrely lovely ...
Instructor rosters for Clarion and Clarion West science fiction writing workshops
September 9, 2007 7:29am
Nice lineup. Given how thrilling it can be to merely -see- an author at a book reading/signing event, it just blows the mind to contemplate having the opportunity to -learn- from them for six weeks. If I were going to the San Diego Clarion workshop I'd be particularly excited about Geoff Ryman, he's one of only two authors (along with David Mitchell) to have -two- books that've earned a place on my 'All-Time Favorites' bookshelf ...
So very jealous of people who'll be going! =)
Kiva sends microloans to every developing-world project on its list
September 8, 2007 8:59am
Sounds like a great idea, and it's wonderful that they're meeting with such success. I do find their current policy a bit odd, though: "Due to overwhelming user interest, we are temporarily limiting loan contributions to $25 per business so that everyone has a chance to make a Kiva loan. We appreciate your patience and look forward to removing this limit soon!"
I ... guess it's sensible to limit how much people can contribute to any one business to keep everybody involved and interested, but at a 'gut-feeling' level it just seems ... strange. But, well, I suppose being a victim of their own success is better than the alternative ...
Grooveshark -- DRM-free P2P music -- pays uploaders
September 7, 2007 9:31am
Sounds like a really great idea. I hope it takes off.
Mark Dery on Taco Bell
September 6, 2007 10:06am
Who would've thought that such delightful writing could be spawned from something like Taco Bell? "Partial birth monstrosity" is a marvelous way of describing their specials. I can't believe I somehow missed all those other Mark Dery posts up here, I'll definitely go back and check 'em out now...
Woman visits own heart
September 5, 2007 10:06pm
I'm amazed at how composed she seems - dunno why but the entire idea distresses me -immensely-. Even just thinking about it triggers this weird little panic button in the part of my psyche where logic fails utterly, there'd be no placid quote about how 'odd and surreal' an experience that was if I were in her shoes ("Oh my god THAT'S MY HEART, YOU BASTARDS! I need that to live, put it BACK!!")
Google Guy collects snapshots of himself with many visiting stars
September 1, 2007 5:13pm
Am I the only one who didn't know which of those three was the star until reading the blurb beneath? Oy vey, celebrity culture makes me feel so out of it =P
Safe toys you can make
August 31, 2007 4:25pm
How cute - those Ron and Hermione dolls in particular are more appealing than any factory-made onces I've seen =) Though I fear that anything I myself might try to make would inevitably end up being far more hazardous than any of those recalled toys; alas for my lack of "making" skills ...
Ray Charles in Post-It Notes
August 31, 2007 9:58am
I really like how random this idea seems - why Ray Charles? Why sticky notes? The apparent utter lack of connection appeals to me for some reason.
Next up, Rick Moranis' head shaved into the fur of a poodle! Neil Armstrong as a silly putty sculpture! A new bouillabaisse flavor that captures the true essence of Steve Jobs!
Stonehenge, up close -- really, really close.
August 30, 2007 3:47pm
Agh, back in 2001 I was lucky enough to be at Stonehenge on the night of the summer solstice, it was apparently the first time in years that they'd actually opened up the site to allow people right there among the stones - that next morning I watched the sun rise right between the stones as I stood there in the middle of the circle, packed in with countless other people in various states of chemical, spiritual, and/or just plain experiential alteration ... what a glorious, happy, -surreal- experience that entire night was!
Baby with twelve toes and fingers
August 30, 2007 3:40pm
I'm with Flying Squid, I was jealous the moment I read the headline of this one - all of a sudden, a mere ten toes and ten fingers seems so sadly inadequate =P If I were one of those kids and ever found out my parents had deprived me of my lovely extra fingers, ooh would I be vexed ...
Torture school subjects children to lethal punishments
August 30, 2007 8:45am
I agree with Mike8787, it's hard to imagine how this could -possibly- be legal ... good lord. And it's been in operation for 36 years?? What on earth becomes of the people who grow up and eventually get out of the system? There are a whole lot of ways to mess a kid up good but this one seems particularly heinous and difficult to overcome ....
Analysis: defense of Miss Teen South Carolina and Maps and Such as
August 29, 2007 8:38pm
Wow, I can't decide which is more beautiful, that generous outpouring of maps on behalf of the children and the South Africa et al, or that insightful critique of our new poet laureate ... I haven't felt this proud of living in SC since those U. of South Carolina guys put in such a good showing for us in the Borat movie ...
Peach wasps devouring their namesake fruit
August 29, 2007 8:34pm
Aw, I love good insect photos, if I had a decent camera I'd be outside taking pictures of creepy-crawlies every chance I got. I'm so glad there are so many other folks out there who get the appeal of insects, too.
Thanks for posting these, they're lovely (as are those figeater beetle ones, the coloring on those guys is delightful!) ... although try as I might I can't seem to see more than 17 wasps in that "peach wasps 11" photo - darn it, now I feel all inadequate-like ...

Wow, I can't believe Forsberg actually managed to get a "won't somebody think of the children!" into his objections ... what fun when people present themselves as real-life parodies =P
