Critical Mass bicyclist knocked over by NYPD

July 28, 2008 2:16pm

Occam's razor leads me to think that the cop is NOT targeting a specific person. He may instead have gotten so frustrated and angry, he was ready to lash out. Something snapped and he just suddenly said to himself, "I'm gonna bag me one of those bastages" and just waded into traffic until he got close enough to assault someone. Pure road rage.

The cyclist was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Doesn't matter WHO he is, just that he's a "dammed cyclist". I'm not excusing the cop, I'm just saying anger makes us do incredibly stupid things.

Anger is the mind killer. Not just fear.

HOWTO make 36-hour perfect cookies in 3 hours

HSCOHEN,

when you seal the food and suck out the air from the air, the stuff gets very compressed, both by the bag itself and the fact that all the air gets pulled from the food itself.

You can macerate sealed food with novel flavourings. You unseal the bag and the marinade gets sucked straight into the stuff.

Actually, craisins and other dry cranberries that are variously flavoured are treated that way. Suck out cranberry juice through vacuum and obtain dry cranberries, nicely collapsed (and cranberry juice, natch). Introduce vacuumed berries into a small amount of grape juice and unseal. SLURP! VoilĂ , grape flavoured dried cranberries.

I love the Ideas in Food duo. Theirs is a blog worth reading for its remarkable culinary adventurousness. I always leave with new ideas and inspiration for my own cookery.

However, as Coffeegirl, I am sadly vacuum-deprived. But I'm not even going to do the 36 hours thing cuz, well, I have managed to lose 10 kilos to the universe and I'd like to keep it that way LOL!

I saw him at a talk about 18 months ago when he came to Montreal at McGill University to fold a giant pterodactyls for the science museum. He's a very engaging speaker. You can see a picture of him working on the critter here

Documentary about women who collect fake babies

February 13, 2008 10:24am

I came across a 'reborn' maker on Etsy last week and was both fascinated and aghast. The dolls were very well made, but it weirded me out. They each came with their little life's story and 'birth certificate'.

This seemed like such a bizarre hobby, I decided to dig a little deeper and found websites that offer baby parts for making these dolls. Little bags of arms and legs, a selection of baby heads... even ugly, premature or crying babies are on offer.

Even as a little girl, I was not fond of dolls. This takes my 'ick' reaction even further. Zombie babies...
