Fluxx -- Nomic card game
January 29, 2008 9:08am
I've played and rated over 250 board and card games and playing Fluxx is one of the most god-awful worst game experiences. I will play nearly any game other than Fluxx.
The game is slightly funny, true. Play it once, and you might get a laugh. From then on, it is nothing but "do what the cards say" over and over again. It is terminally dumb, incredibly stupid, and dull as hell when it's not your turn.
It is, however, an interesting "idea" of a game. It just doesn't translate into fun. It's not like Calvinball because You don't get to decide the new rules, the cards do.
Many other Nomic games mentioned, such as Nomic, 1000 Blank White Cards, and others are much more enjoyable as games.
Sorry, Looney Labs, but that's my opinion. Some people do enjoy the game, but then some people enjoy nearly any game. Check out its reputation on boardgamegeek.com before deciding whether or not to buy it.

HOWTO Win at Monopoly
November 7, 2007 1:43pm
Sorry, I'm in the Monopoly basically sucks category (all 1300+ versions), although there are plenty of other games that suck more.
I'll second Power Grid for people who want to switch to a better economic game, as well as Acquire. But for a simple plain easy to play game, just get Settlers of Catan. (Buy these at Amazon.com or elsewhere).

I would support such a correction. Sorry for the poor wording.

Board-game price-fixing
October 28, 2007 6:04am
adamjury,
I come from a country where my salary is low and shipping games is expensive. So, without deep discounting and online stores, no, I would never have bought games. The one local store that started in a nearby city has games priced beyond my means.
So yes, deep discounters are good for some consumers, because some people can buy more games and people without access to local stores can buy games. For me, the choice was between discounted games or no games.

Can "girl games" transcend shopping, fashion and babies?
October 3, 2007 4:05am
I wrote an article about this recently:
http://jergames.blogspot.com/2007/09/disconnect-between-casual-game-sites.html
What startles me is that the majority of game players are women. 75% of online game purchases are made by women.
If this is the case, why is everyone having such a hard time figuring out what games women play? It's the games that are currently being made. Hello?
